Hi, my name is So.  This is my first forum anywhere.  Anyways, I am an avid amateur photography.  I love digital photography because of the ability to take as much photos as you want and be able to edit on the computer.
I started with a Pentax K10, then a Nikon D200 (which I still have).  However, there cameras were big and not portable.  I bought a Pentax k5 which is great (size and IQ).  This is my true DSLR.
For a trip, I bought a Sony Nex 3.  Quality is look.  However, the lens selection is limited.
Then I stumble onto the Olympus Pen cameras.  The more I read, the more I love the design and  size.  So I bought a E-P2 with 17 mm and a flash package.  After that, I bought a nice used E-P1 cheap because I prefer the silver look.  I have both cameras wrapped in real black leather.  They look very retro.  Now I have the 45mm f1.8 lens.
So far, I am loving the quality and versatility of these cameras.
Hope to learn from other members and maybe contribute some ideas in the future.
Thanks

Hello Everyone,

Thought I'd just stop in to say hi. I consider myself to be a total nOOb at photography but I am eager to learn. I received my E-PL1 for Christmas and I am just in aww on how great quality photos it takes. So I am eager to learn more and take quality shots.

-Martin

P.S. IDK if it is allowed, if not I'll remove it but I have a few shots of my daughters I took the other day and have uploaded them to my flickr account if you'd like to see.

Hey everybody,

Stumbled upon this site while researching video for DSLR.  I joined to hopefully learn more about hybrid photography and possibly discuss and share details about lenses, techniques, etc.

I currently use a Canon T2i, and enjoy using it for video, but after reading so many reviews on the Panasonic GH2, I think I will be buying that in a few weeks.

I'm completely open to suggestions and advice and look forward to digging around.

Feel free to use the inbox.

Hi everyone

I found this site looking for infos about µ4/3

I'm a french graphic designer and amateur photographer since about 20 years, mostly with analog medium format but also large format cameras and a few small format including the Pen F from the '60s.
I bought my very first digital and auto-focus camera in 2008, I wanted to use it the same way I use my Pen F as a not too serious all-around and travel camera but µ4/3 cameras didn't exist so I chose an Olympus E-420 with 25mm pancake and 12-60 zoom, and later the Summilux D 25, then I replaced the E-420 for a E-620 to get lens stabilization.

Last year I wanted to use tilt & shift lenses and discovered that I couldn't use such lenses on my camera due to the prism/flash bloc exceeding in front of the camera.
So I sadly sold everything and bought an E-PL2 with VF-2 that gives me a lot of satisfaction even if it's not perfect. I love the ability to use nearly any lens on this camera and it gives me the pleasure to manual focus I couldn't find on the 4/3 cameras due to too small viewfinder.

I use mostly prime lenses :
- Panasonic 14 mm f/2.5 pancake (with a Contax G lens hood for 28 mm, shame on Panasonic to not even propose hoods for the pancakes)
- Voigtländer Super Wide Heliar 15 mm f/4.5 in Nikon F mount + Fotodiox shift adapter : for urban architecture and landscape, but on the edges it is soft and suffer from light fall, I like it anyway (by the way I'm looking for the Ultra Wide Heliar 12 mm version of this lens)
- Panasonic 20 mm f/1.7 pancake (with a generic metal hood) : in my opinion a must-have in µ4/3 lenses, best quality/characteristics for price
- Arsat 20 mm f/2.8 TS (with a rubber foldable hood) : not as easy to use than a large format camera and far from perfect lens, still need to learn how to get the best of it.
- Zuiko 40 mm f/1.4 for Pen F (with the metal hood dedicated to the 100 mm for Pen F to limit flare) : great for portrait, my second most used lens after the Pana' 20.
- Contax G 90 mm f/2.8 + Metabone adapter ring : I don't use it a lot because it's a bit long for my habits, but a really great lens and high building quality we don't see a lot nowadays including top-end hood.
- zoom 14-150 : good lens but stays in the closet, zooms aren't my type.

The new E-M5 seems promising, I'm a little impatient to see the real thing…

Hi,

I've been signed up since June '08. So, it's about time I made my first post here!

I'm primarily using an E-P1 with the Panny 20mm. Gone through a number of lenses for this camera, but the 20mm is best I've had the chance to use.

The forum didn't exist in June of 2008? Either way, welcome to the forum!

Hi everyone!

I've been a long-time lurker of this excellent forum, which has inspired me through the purchases of an E-P1 a little over a year ago, and some lenses here and there ever since. I'm not particularly good at all, but the work and community here has inspired me to keep at it and get better.

I'm a web developer for a startup in Brooklyn, NY. I've got a background in graphic design for print, and got my first intro to photography via electives at college, where I had a brief experience with film SLRs (a Yashica FX-3, to be specific). The E-P1 was actually a big draw to me because of its ability to adapt old-school manual focus lenses, which was a more familiar interface to me than the menus, dials, and buttons of digital cameras.

Thanks again for this awesome community, and I hope to make a decent contribution as time goes on!

- Marco

Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself my real name is Joe. I am a bit of an immatures photography enthusiast. I am on the cusp of purchasing a EP-1 camera and was looking for information when I found this site. I currently own a Olympus E410 and have for years desired more performance but have dedicated myself to mastering it before moving forward to something more advanced then the OM-D E-M5 came along and I am fascinated ...better yet obsessed with the idea of having it. One thing I have learned is my current setup would be much better if it had better lenses. It is my intention to move over to an affordable EP-1 and try to build a complement of lenses that will work for a few years before I take the plunge into a new body. Keeping that in mind I only want to purchase really good quality lenses that take advantage of  the fast AF feature of the newer Olympus cameras.

I must say after "lurking" the forum yesterday. Reading for very informative posts from what seems to be a brilliant group of MFT enthusiasts and professionals, coming on here is a bit intimidating. I promise to at least try not to be a total bore with my amateurish questions. And if I do I will be hanging on every word for sound advice. I may even consider a Photography class locally here in the Dallas area so I can try to stay up to speed with the discussion topics.
