Also, if you need help with anything, feel free to contact either myself or admin via PM.

How do I post images, in say, the "Show Us Your Camera" section?

Hello everyone, I live in Atlanta, Georgia and I've been an amateur photographer for several years.  I've used both film and digital, and just sold my Nikon D80 in order to have my now brand spanking new oly E-P1, silver with the black 14-42.  So far, the PEN is everything my nikon was not.  I made the switch for the same reasons most people have, I've been looking for a smaller camera with a better sensor and technology than current small cameras.  And I knew as soon as this camera was announced that I wanted one, and that it would be what I wanted it to be.  And I think it will be.  I've only had it for the last few hours, so tomorrow I'll be kicking around town doing what I do.

For now, feel free to check out my flickr page.  I'll be updating with new images over the weekend.

Hi all, I'm an American, doing the ex-pat thing in Japan right now.  I take tons of photo's, but I've only had point and shoot camera's till now.  I'm considering picking up a Pen as my first DSLR, just have to figure out what's best lens wise, etc. so I'll be checking out the photo's and advice you guys have here before making my decision.

My first camera was a range finder and have been intrigued by the feel and versatility ever since. I still shoot with my Contax G2 so the E-P1 felt right for me. I have had the camera for 2 weeks now and am enjoying it very much. It has become my cary camera and I use it every chance I get. Looking forward to meeting fellow Pen users on line. Dave

Haya everyone!
My name is George and I'm an aclhoholic!...Sorry, wrong forum hehehe :)

I live in Toronto Canada and at this point am waiting impatiently for my pre-ordered E-P1 /17mm kit.
Even though I know this is a first off, and not the camera I would have designed, I am still very excited about it; just sold my NIKON D700 kit and the only thing I have left to imitate reality with is my sketchbook, no camera at the moment.
I am also heading to a trip in the Nevada desert end of August ofr a fesival where I intend on puting the E-P1 through duststorms, sun, heat, sweat and a lot of dancing (read: banging around) :)
Hopefuly I 'll get it soon enough to get used to it before that.

so hi again to everyone here! Glad to meet you.
George.

Hello, I'm Kurtis, a Canadian living in Tokyo. My wife and I have been using compact digitals for snapshots, but started to want higher quality images and more artistic control. We love our new E-P1! Still learning the basics of photography and how to use the camera. We'd love to read tips and advice for getting the most out of our camera.

Hi E-P1 dudes and dudettes-

Though I'm not much of a poster (1 post including this one  ;) ), I'm hugely appreciating the generous posting of so many on the forum here.

I've had my E-P1 w/14-42 kit for a couple weeks now, and it's THE design I've been waiting for a few years now. The Panny: too bulky. The Sigma DP-1 or DP-2: ur stuck with that lense. Don't need or want the bulk of an OVF or crummy built-in flash, and wish to possibly make some of my old Canon FD lenses useful again.

The E-P1: BINGO! Absolutely perfect for my situation! In fact, I went after it immediately (which is out of character) just in case Olympus got some big genius idea about doing something that would increase the bulk of it to satisfy whiners and complainers. As a college art teacher, I'm constantly winging it and can't afford the bulk of even the smallest DSLR.

It's a cool piece of gear. I like it.

Party on....

Cheers,
Karl

hi,  my first post on your forum'
i can see im gonna be reading many hour into the night here!

im from  new york city[queens bronx and manhattan!!!!]

got my silver/ black Ep1,14-42
from adorama over a month ago ,apparently in the first wave of machines to be sold in america... just 2500 pieces a dealer told me recently, it was a rare instance of very lucky!!!

first thing i did ,{after the initial euphoria wore off}, and i could slow down the    " test shooting"   into the wee hours,     and learning. . . . "the EP1 and its ways"  .       i decided to get a longer zoom,
i went with  the "Panny" 45-200 OIS ,its soooo sharp, i cut myself the first time i used it !

but soon i wished for a fast prime. faster and cheaper than the 17 2.8 .

on a lark I dismounted the kit lens and held an old  but minty 1960`s [yeah baby!!!!]--NIKKOR-H  AUTO1:2 "50" ----nippon kogaku japan---- at a point where i thought it would be focused. . . inch , inch and a half away . . . . . . . . . whoa  !!

I was astonished to see, as i brought up the 10x mf ,such brightness and clarity !, and the focus snapping into existance!  ,as i moved the lens in and out to simulate focusing ,a few "test shots "so blew me away,
that i immediately set about creating a homemade micro 4\3 to  nikon "adapter '.
this was the first time i had tried anything homemade, optical , but as i consider my Dremel and myself up to the task,  after some fitful beginnings,  i settled upon nikkor lens to nikon rear lens cap with cut out center [spots of crazy glue to lock it down,[wince!!]a number of leather washers [more crazy glue !]and then i joined it to . . . ???? yes... an EP-1 body cap [with the center dremeled out] attached with YES !. . . . yet more crazy glue .
the sheer volume of "crazy glue" caused me to [almost] loose my mind!
some epoxy paste to strengthened the bodycap and provide a locking pin recess     much trial and error and infinity focus isnt perfect , but hey i have my fast prime, its a superb "100 mm" f 2 bright and sharp wide open, and it cost me next to nothing , i dressed the "lens up with some old filter rings and rubber washers and its handsome as hell, it looks like it was made for the camera!the glueline on the lens\ lens cap can be undone and redone as necessary  i did this once as a proof of concept ,but i think i will leave this lens permanantly "adapted".

i now have 2 cosina voigtlander lenses as well with a 'real' voightlander M to m4\3 adapter
i love them as much as a cherish my imperfect but brave little Olympus EP-1 !

a 50 1.5 nokton in silver   [ 100  f1.5  equiv]
a 28 1.9 ultron black   [56 1.9 equiv ]
i have learned to love and re-appreciate the value and accuracy of manual focusing,
and i have the ep 1 to thank for it!

im very happy to have joined your forum ,
happy shooting  and greetings from my fair city!!!!

later!

Greetings fellow E-P1 fanatics.

I have just traded my early generation Canon Digital Rebel and my 6-month old Nikon D90 for the new E-P1. I am a big Olympus fan. Years ago, my first serious camera was an OM-1 that I bought in middle school (better known as junior high in those days).

I will be contributing photographs to this forum shortly.

For those that are into the video features of the E-P1, I have started an E-P1 group on Vimeo. Please visit and join us:

Hi there,

Finally bought the camera i was captivated with...

So far, i am pretty satisfied with it as it surpass compact camera capabilities with added advantage of a DSLR functions.

Pretty well targetted segment with good product differentiation.

Now trying my luck with some HDR photos while waiting for my flash, 17mm lens and batt to arrive

Cheers frm Malaysia, Subang Jaya

Howdie. I'm Jon. I live in Krakow, and got my Pen this week. It is my first Oly, though I've followed Oly and the 4/3 format for years, waiting for the perfect camera. I'm very excited about the µ4/3 family, and am hoping to make it my format of choice in the future (though I will probably be moving from my Canon D30 to an E-3 soon). I've only shot experimental shots so far, but already see the potential in this camera, and the format in general. I'm looking forward to what the future holds for µ4/3. :-0

Voyager. Sorry for the delay. It's the real deal--the D30--the first dSLR Canon made. 3 glorious megapixels. ;) silky smooth enough to res-up to 20"x30" at 200ppi or more, and still look gorgeous (depending on the pic, of course).

Oh, and I made a mistake. It's not and E-3, but the E-30. :)

Hi,
I'm Nick from Germany and joined the MFT Forum just the other week - to now find out that I have to register in the PEN forum to keep contact. While I think that if there had to be a merger it should have been the other way round as the PEN is an MFT camera but my G1 isn't a PEN and has got an EVF. Anyway - here I am.
