New to Forum and Micro Four Thirds
« on: November 02, 2011, 06:40:25 AM »
Hi,

My name is Sukey and I recently moved from upstate New York to Milwaukee. My E-P1 arrived on Monda and I am so excited I can't stand it, BUT:...How do I get started shooting in RAW? I don't necessarily understand a lot of the settings on the LCD screen, and sort of want them to go away.  Reading the downloaded manual is a bit of a pain...any suggestions on getting started are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the customizable options are staggering ,iusemy ep1 with manual lenses , its great so keep it simple , start turning off stuff , yeah its a bit of a pain

and enjoy that camera , the instant classic ep1 , get a 50mm anything fast lens off e bay for next to no money  and an inexpensive adapter for less than 25 bucks , shoot on A and welcome to the party

Raw requires you developing the image on software before it can be viewable. The advantage of that is a gigantic jump in image quality
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Heh, I know what you mean about the menus being confusing. Are you looking to change to the RAW setting, or just trying to clear your LCD out a bit? If you press the info button a few times, it'll change what is displayed on there. I'm not quite sure how customizable it is, I've never tried to mess with it. Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Well, set it up for for RAW + JPG, that way you have a "Processed" file to compare to while you get used to working with RAW developing.

Hi,

Thanks for your responses. I guess I wasn't too clear. I want to shoot in raw. I want to shoot manually and turn off as much stuff as I can. I am just not sure how. Thanks.

If you want to shoot in RAW, press the OK button on your E-P1 and you'll find the image output settings on there. If you're shooting in RAW, then most of the other default settings involved with the camera will generally not affect your images.
