New board added: Photographic Concepts
« on: July 15, 2010, 09:17:03 PM »
I'd like a little bit of input on the addition of this new board, which is more of a change from the Photo Techniques board which is now General Photography. I'm wondering if these boards are all too close to each other, or if they have enough difference (I think they do, although a few topics might not need to be moved around). Either way, enjoy the new board!

I also changed a few of the board names to be more forum friendly.

I think it's a very good idea to have a category "Photographic Concepts" but it should be defined in a sentence underneath the heading. I also would like to see a category called "Photographic Techniques" defined and placed adjacent to the "Concepts" forum. "General Photography"--frankly I don't understand what holds this together, seems to be a combination of technique and miscellaneous posts. The most important thing is to give clear definitions of the categories on the main Forum page.  :)

Best wishes, The Traveler

I think that conceptual photography is at least as important as mainstream photography. Having a separate forum category for it may be beneficial at some point.

Thanks! I'll think about the board organization relating to that entire category and work on it.

Strikes me that would be a good theme for a thread - I've seen some brilliant stuff falling into that category on Flickr and elsewhere.

I'm not entirely sure of the intent of this new board. At first glance, its title suggests a newbie board: to explain the basics like shutter speed, aperture, etc. But I don't think that's its purpose. Or is it to delve more into more specialized types of photography--like macro photography, night photography, solarization and the like?

Macro is one that I think might use it's own category, but we'll leave it in nature for now. For the rest of them, I'll consider it!
