Hi Everybody -

I just joined today (there was a link somewhere in Digital Photography Review). Have been a hobby photographer forever, but for many years was just getting the job done with (good) compacts. I own a Canon S90, Canon G9 and Nikon P6000... among with what can now be regarded as other digital museum pieces (Leica Digilux 1, Canon S10 ..)

I was following the m4.3 (what is the official acronym/abbreviation, I have seen several forms?) scene for a while. Big sensor, compact package... and when I saw the Olympus E-PL1 announcement I told myself I'd rather spend $600 on that than yet another compact. I also got the -as I see- often maligned Olympus 17mm lens (and thus the spending on lenses begins) as well as the external FL-14 flash. Yikes, the m4.3 equipment is not cheap yet. Miniaturization comes at a price, I guess.

I am truly enjoying this, though, and considering my next lens purchase, probably something with real zoom oomph. Should one wait for more m4.3 offers, or simply get 4.3 lenses with an adapter? It would seem the latter grants one more investment protection... well, that's why I am here, to learn.

Notably a couple of fun, meaningless shots with the E-PL1 when I was just playing around. As well as a *very* flawed comparison with the S90, since I think I bungled the E-PL! settings on at least one of the pictures.
