Along with possibly all Mirrorless cameras in general.

What would you call it?

Possible prize will be included for best response (or one that may be used in the future).

MSC.net,  Mirrorless System Camera (MSC).  Panasonic also uses the term Compact System Camera (CSC).  Looks like both MSC.net and CSC.net are available.

Mirrorless digital cameras have been around longer than mirror digital cameras. I don't get the big huff.
I think its funny, like mirrorless is something new...

As far as the name of the forum...
I like it as is.

how about just mirrorless.net

Taken.

Available: 4thirds.org

I find the E-P1 title a bit off-putting (yes, it was a revolutionary camera, but the 4/3's world is so much bigger now), so am glad a rebrand is being considered.

Personally, I think the forum will play to its strengths by focussing on micro-4/3's (as per its current tagline), so incorporating that into a new name would be ideal.

I recommend playing with http://domai.nr :)

Hi. For all mirrorless, regardless of sensor size, how about mirrolessworld.net (or com, etc). Using 43 in the name implies only to four thirds..what about including everything such as apsc sensor based cameras. Never know where Olympus and Panasonic will evolve to.

There's a place for BOTH:
  • a board devoted to things to do with the 4/3 standard system equipment, and
  • a board for the more general mirrorless system cameras and accessories
This board serves the first very well - and I'd support a change to reflect that. Brief-ish names such as 4thirds.org or micro4thirds.info (as suggested by others) work well as they're both memorable and easy to type.

I personally think that it would be better to open a second board related to mirrorless system cameras - it would complement this one and leave it clear for more dedicated discussions related to particular items and techniques within the 4/3 system, while allowing the more general stuff to be discussed in a wider context.

I'd have no trouble with two boards - I subscribe to lots across a range of topics and one more is no load. To me that's preferable to having very diverse discussions on the one board. I can filter the input much better (whether mentally or with computer help) if it's in multiple streams.

Cheers

I've read that the search engines will do a better job of picking up a site and categorizing it properly if the domain name means something clear.  So, for example, fourthirdscamera.com or mirrorlesscameras.com is better than m43cam.com.

Generally speaking i don´t see anything wrong in being spezialized in ONE system and become THE source for everything related to the Olympus E-P-Series. I´d even go one step further and try to get first hand info and cameras for testing from them. There are enough foras in the www. trying to cover everything but can´t cover one single topic a 100%.

Apart from that - what do we have:

- retro-design - not good, may be considered old stuff
- no mirror - we do have already variants of this fact - even suggested here
- smaller mount - also already available
- changeable lenses - no clue how to but that into a domain name
- small body - that´s it for me:

So - how about "MicroCams.org"?

By that everything not DSLR but with DSLR-capablilities like:

- Fuji X100 (and successors)
- all 4/3´s
- NEX
- Nikon´s upcoming ml-system
- etc.

could be covered and the domain is available.

Cheers
Virgil

Don't change it, I think e-p1.net with the line "the original micro four thirds community" is great.

if you have to change it; originalm43.net is my bet.

Doug

You can add metadata to any page and site Doug, you can include any Keyword(s) you want the search Spiders to find e.g. e-p1, e-p2, Olympus, Panasonic, G1, G2, GH1, mirrorless, evil cameras, etc. etc.

You can do this for the whole site or for individual pages.

Please, let this irritating habit of naming cameras after properties they don't have come to an end. Twin/double Lens Reflex cameras died a long time ago, but we are still talking Single Lens Reflex cameras. They should be called Reflex cameras.

Today, everybody is talking/writing Mirrorless or even Mirrorless SLRs  :'(  ...

So, let's forget about the past and name the M43 cameras positively: Compact System. Compact, because they can be made smaller than reflex cameras and System, because one can change lenses and add viewfinders, flashes etc.

(My next penisless grandchild will be called NotAnne...)
If you don't see my mirrors, I can't see you...

My sentiments are with the streetshooter, "I like it as it is," especially as I am still using an E-P1!

Of course as the E-P1 fades into memory, the name "e-p1.net" could seem curious or even irrelevant to new users. At the rate new cameras are being introduced, this may occur sooner than we wish to think. The trick is to find a new moniker that is as distinctive as the old one: most of the suggestions brought forth thus far lack this quality. They are highly inclusive and are not all that different than the names used by other m43 fora.

I suggest waiting until the next E-P1--i.e. the next defining m43 camera--is released and re-naming the forum after it.
