Interesting... Last year's winner was a lifestyle shot, while this year both the winner and runner up were landscapes.

Congrats to both photographers, and to all the entrants, for creating such amazing images and proving how good m4/3rds really is.

Congrats, leesure, great photo! As good as it is, at 1024px it exceeds the 800px requirement. Since this rule was stated at the top of the submissions thread and discussed in the comment thread, no real excuses. As a friendly forum do we let it slide? Or do we follow formal contests which require not only a good effort but also attention to the rules? And please don't shoot the messenger!

My vote is to let it slide... This has always been a friendly forum.  I don't think the file size had any impact on the win.

I did vote for both those.

For myself I've decided never to participate in any competition in photography. I don't think you can compete in culture.

Anyway I voted :)

To round off this post I have to say that it was a lot of beautiful photos from many photographers, cheers!
Best wishes to you all!

It is a competition after all. Is it fair to those that followed the rules?

I don't think the file size had any impact on the win.
There is no way of knowing that although it could be argued that submitting a photo at 1.6 times the allowed area could easily influence a viewer's opinion. I assume that is why the rule was there in the first place. That's not really the point, though. It is more a matter of acknowledging the error and either letting it go out of generosity or sticking to the rules as a matter of prudence. In a group of people with many different backgrounds and sensibilities it is a hard call.

I never enforced this rule to begin with, and the main idea was to not give horribly oversized photos that the forum had to resize, which nobody ended up doing. I think it's safe to say that nobody is going to really have an issue with this.

It is not a hard call.  It is not important.

Great photos and a well deserved win!

Okay, although I brought it up and someone else asked if it was fair, so "nobody" is an overstatement. I have seen several contests where photos were rejected outright for not following guidelines, so I would at least advise that it is a bad habit for photographers to think that rules are unimportant. Sorry to bring this up but it was a rather obvious inconsistency that I thought deserved a mention.

Again, congrats to the winners! Good work!
