Two new GF cameras?
« on: September 05, 2010, 03:53:51 PM »
Despite news from 43rumors.com about there being no new GF cameras this year, someone on Dpreview has some possibly contradictory news about it.

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1041&thread=36239706

I'm very new to the M4/3rds group here, but recently I've been emailing panasonic support for a problem with the 20mm on my E-PL1
Since then an engineer from panasonic staff has been assisting me via email.
Needless to stay, due to me purchasing an E-PL1 over a GF-1, I've been asked by Panasonic to participate in a marketing survey.
This survey was done online and consisted of several general type questions etc.
However, just so you all know there were a lot of questions concerning a low budget non viewfinder camera as well as a high budget one. Questions such as what features do you feel are critical for a low budge M43 camera.
I chose features such as compactness and built in flash as opposed to better sensor and faster performance. NOTE: In camera IS was not an option
Basically I got the feeling that they're going to launch two new GF style models.
Knowing this I emailed the engineer on if he could shed any light on it.
I was right  See his response below.
"It should come as no surprise that we've noticed the latest market trends and see what our M43 customers want. Given that, I cannot disclose any detailed info regarding your question. However, all I can say is that the GF line will expand and will be our main focus over the next few months."
My gut is that a low cost GF-2 will be released, quite possibly it would be just a smaller version of the GF-1 with the GH-1 sensor at a nice low price, maybe at $549.
Then there'd be a GF-3 perhaps with an even newer sensor same body and perhaps more advanced controls etc. at $649.
At least that is what I'm hoping for here.
Your thoughts?

It should be noted that 43rumors gets most of their news from the Dpreview forum as well, so this news could possibly be as true as the other news posted by them.

The survey must have been for more future designs. Can't imagine A company asking about what we want in cameras due in the next few months. Takes longer than that to design and build them. Nice that they are asking.
thanks
