Want: 12mm fast pancake.
Expect: 12mm overpriced big thing or 12mm slow pancake.
Cameras big and small: Sony HX9V, Olympus E-P1, Canon 300D (IR mod), 7D and many others!

I voted:
12mm f/2  ;D

This would be a great "Night Life" lens and interior design lens for real estate brokers, lets not forget night landscape and night city scape use also.

What I really want is a sharp 17.5mm f/2 pancake since I love 35mm FOV. Obviously they won't give us that since they already have a 17/2.8.

I think we will get a pancake so as to distinguish it in terms of portability from their very compact zooms. Wasn't a 12mm on their roadmap?

This is really good news if true! I'm in the market for a wide angle lens. If the rumour is to be believed, then it'll probably be a 12mm f/2.0. If so, it's not going to be cheap I'm afraid. I'd be happy with a 12mm f/2.8 to maintain compactness and affordability. Even better would be a 10 or 11mm f2/8.

I hope we get the 12mm f2.0, but I suspect it will be the 12-60 f2.8-4.0. I'm keeping my eye on the 4/3 11-22mm since it's price keeps dropping.  11mm f2.8 would be sweet for street shooting.  I doubt Olympus will release a brand new design.  Just a slightly smaller and lighter versions of 4/3 lens as usual.  Olympus fills the fast wide/prime gap with their 14-35 f2.0.  I don't think we will see anything wider or faster that that from them.

The rumors mention high grade lenses for m43, which I translate as all of the lenses in the 4/3 high grade bracket will end up with m43 equivalents, minus the 11-22 since it doesn't sell well because most people buy the 12-60 instead.

So a 24mm f/4 equivalent, sounds not too bad.

It's a start. a 24mm f/4 fov makes a good landscape and,  a wide angle open crowds candid at outdoor events, good for crowded downtown city candid also. A good party lens in brighter places.

Then why dont they make their 35-100 f2 already!!!!! (can you tell I want it?)
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I think they believe they need A pro camera to justify pro lenses. They don't, I think the E-P2 with the VH2 can deliver the quality needed.

I am still hoping despite what I just said, that Olympus is working on a semi-pro to pro body. It would be bigger than the E-P Series.

I think 2012 is the year for Olympus to grow the m43 market.

All that you see in m4/3 and 4/3 differs a lot. The designs are different, because of the different flange-back focal distance, the more megapixels, the smaller size. You can't just replace an element or two in a lens design, you usually need to redesign the whole thing from the ground up. M4/3 and 4/3 lenses seem alike as they cover the same focal lengths and apertures, but they are totally different on the inside.

Too say it with words of lenstip.com, i think less than 14mm will result in either "monstrous distortion" or loss of sharpness in the edges.

They write also something interesting:
"A small 4/3 system sensor makes it possible to construct wide-angle lenses which fare really great on the edge of the frame. They are noticeably bigger, though, not like the “pancake” tested here. Most probably these small dimensions are the reason why the image quality on the edge of the frame doesn’t impress us much. "
cheers

It's still a 24mm equivalent though, which I don't think that they are really considering.
