Sony wants to buy 20%-30% of Olympus

Mainly for a Sensor Partnership

This is good news to me. That means Sony won't dismantle Olympus with the Partnership.

This could be OK.

Oly gets money, but stays in charge.
Oly could get sensors from Sony. And Sony could get some lens technology for their NEX System.

I'm still betting that Leica aka Blackstone group buys up Olympus.

I suspect that a business maneuver like this is going to be the death of m43 format. Sony and Panasonic are arch rivals, I can't imagine it would be too long before a NEX mount Olympus arrived. From Sony's perspective getting access to Olympus optics might be an advantage, that and the medical imaging division.

I bet Sony already sells more still cameras than Olympus. The more I look at this deal the more it signals the implosion of Olympus as an independent entity.

Sounds interesting. I bought my son a NEX 5N, and really it is a good camera, not as nice as the e-p1 to  use, but the sensor is fabulous (although I think the controls are a bit strange), and the jpegs somehow "colder".  The weaknesses of the NEX are really a good match for the strengths of the Oly....

Now that you say it like that, this is a horrible idea!

On the other hand, it might be a great deal and will ultimately promote love and harmony on internet photography forums everywhere.

No, no, no...that's when Canon and Nikon actually combine.

That would be good. Nikon have shown just how good you can get a Sony sensor to work with a few tweaks.
Be nice to each other, life is too short for anything else.
