According to our very reliable sources Panasonic wants to celebrate the 10 years of Lumix by introducing a new “special” Lumix model in Q3. We were told that is certainly NOT a GH camera and the sources didn’t tell me what’s so “special” with that camera. There will be also two new lenses announced along that camera. Announcement is expected in Q3 (August). As you know I am a big fan of the Panasonic L1 and would love to see a m43 version of it. But that’s just my personal wish. What do you expect?

Would you want to buy an L1 styled Micro Four Thirds camera?

I am wondering if it is fixed lens zoom (7-21 Leitz Vario Summicron), but with a 14-42 f/2 instead.?
will it have interchangeable lenses with the 14-42 f/2 as the kit lens?
Will it have a bigger than 4mp sensor?  (yes, maybe a 10mp with REALLY LOW NOISE)!

I Want to know NOW Damn't!

I would love an L1 style MFT camera. I think it would suit the way the previous pens have been designed.

Can a fixed lens camera be correctly described as Micro Four Thirds?

As long as it has a m4/3 sensor, then yes

This one will not have a m4/3 sensor.  A 1/2.3 I think

That's just a Four Thirds sensor.  Why not call them Four Thirds?

Because it has a shorter register for the lens mount than regular 4/3 camera.
The m4/3 camera have no mirror, so, the camera can be thinner in depth. hence, the shorter register.

The mount may be different, but the sensor is a direct descendant of the last of the Four Thirds SLRs.

The lens mount is irrelevant for a fixed lens camera.  I'm fairly sure you'll never see a fixed lens camera with a Micro Four Thirds marque on it.

The size of the mount and possible lenses would still be smaller on a fixed lens camera for Micro Four Thirds, so I think they'd have the ability to call it that.

Its their company, and their product, they can call it hitler's revival kit if they so want to...
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Camera systems are mostly defined by the mount. I can't see branding a fixed lens camera as m4/3 as that would only cause market confusion. It'll probably just be a Lumix.
Cameras big and small: Sony HX9V, Olympus E-P1, Canon 300D (IR mod), 7D and many others!

m4/3 as a standard defines both sensor size, distance from the mount, and lens mount dimensions and communications protocol. If it does not have an interchangeable lens, it is not m4/3. Period.
It may use the same size sensor, but it will not be m4/3 compatible, so putting the m4/3 logo on it will not only be confusing, but also legally incorrect.
