what's the difference between vivenza and color effex pro? Do both of them have the structure slider? Either of them? And if you had to choose one what would it be?
I use both and wondered the same thing at first. It turns out that Viveza has 10 controls including structure that can be applied to all or selected objects in the photo, whereas Color Efex Pro applies any number of "filters" covering a wide range of effects from subtle to wild. A few of the effects include structure.

They recommend using Viveza first to adjust the light and color, and then to apply Color Efex Pro filters as desired. I use both about equally, Viveza for touching up certain elements of a photo and optionally Color Efex Pro for applying a style. There's more to it, of course, but that is it in a nutshell. Color Efex Pro can be overwhelming with all the possibilities, so if I had to choose I would probably go with Viveza as a more practical tool. Color Efex Pro is fun to play with, though.

Thanks Jason and Lisandra for these very informative tutorials!

Of course, with this new knowledge, choosing the "best" version in my post-processing now has become even more of a challenge. To paraphrase a popular saying: "you never finish a post-processing job, you abandon it". That about sums it up for my photos. :D

Nice! Doesn't quite look as contrasty as what I usually see though.

It was an odd image to begin with, with blown highlights and a very dirty mirror...

How about this one....

Used a little of the Silver Efex Pro 2 and CS3 magic.

G3
Canon FD 50/1.4

Started PP with LR3, then transferred to SFXP2.  Started with the Yellowed preset, then I made numerous changes from there...like switching from Yellow tone to Coffee.  Used about 10 Control points as well.

I downloaded a trial version of this program to see what all the fuss is about. I have to say I'm very pleased with the results so far, but it runs very slow on my computer...

...and yes, I'm aware that I just posted a picture with a digital border, which is supposedly a pet peeve of mine.

Can anyone confirm here that this Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 will work properly via LightRoom 4?

Hmm... I haven't installed any updates, and it seems to be working fine anyway. It takes forever to load, but both LR4 and SFXP2 are a bit too much for my computer to handle.
