Some shots from Las Vegas
« on: November 16, 2010, 02:30:20 PM »
We went to Vegas last month--it was my first trip with my E-P1. Since I don't gamble, I just looked around for interesting photo subjects. I haven't shot B&W in years and am now just rediscovering the joy of monochrome photography. The E-P1 does a great job in black and white.

On the people mover heading into the Bellagio.

You've had a lot more success with the E-P1 at night than I have, these are really exceptional photos!

Thanks. I credit my excellent 20mm lens and the various utilities that I have to tweak my photos. Most notably, I didn't use a tripod for any of my low light shots!

There you go--my gambit worked! Sneak in the naked lady under the pretense of art and it won't get it banned from the forum!  ;)

Great shots on this. Very good the black & White. Whose are your utilities?

Great shots on this. Very good the black & White. Whose are your utilities?
Depending on how much time and effort I want to put into massaging the images, I use one or more of these utilities:

RAW conversion, contrast tweaks: Olympus Viewer 2
Noise reduction: Noiseware Standard Edition
Sharpening: Focus Magic
Distortion/Perspective correction: Turbo Photo
Other B&W tweaks (i.e., warmer, colder, etc.): Turbo Photo

The first image was just a straight B&W JPG out of the camera. The last image was RAW converted with some sharpening. The second image I threw everything I had at it and I'm quite pleased with the results.

I like!  Very much so #'s 2 & 3.  These b&w's looks somewhat ´clean&surgical´, - very ´digital´, - ´metallic´ in a way.  Post editing with a lot of character!

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. Here are a few more B&W snaps from my trip that I'm rather fond of. All these are basically straight out of the camera, except the last one where I used the "warm" B&W setting and enhanced its focus a bit.

Another stunning view of the Venetian from across the street

Can't quite remember this hotel--is it the Paluzzo?
