Some red beaked birds and white virgins in my garden
« on: June 29, 2011, 06:47:33 AM »
Feeling a bit like voyager to-day.  However, the nice macros from Jman inspired me enough to bring along the E-P2 over the shoulder, - and the 'big-brother' EOS-1D, - on a tripod, into the garden.  Temperatures are soaring in the high nineties,- add high tropical humidity, - and you'll know that one probably don't want to stay too long.

I have noticed the Birds of Paradise are attracting some rather big, brown ants, and I wanted to try to get them on the sensor.  The wind, making flowers and greenery to move around a bit, didn't make the task easier as I tried to manually focus them with the PEN handheld.  Well, here's the results, - this was the best I could manage to-day, under the circumstances.   :)

The last shot here is from the EOS-D1, with the EF 85mm/f1.2L mkII connected.  On the tripod, - of course, (far to heavy machinery for me to carry around, even from a neck strap).  These (totally) white flowers where a challenge to get to stand out. Again, this one was probably my best effort of to-day.  Tried others f-values as well (for a not so narrow DOF), but still i believe this one to be the better one (or least bad?).  Anyone know the name of this one? Quite a lot of them around the Paradisebirds here.

Thanks, Mark.  Good to know.  Just plain luck with my 'vigin' then . . . :)   as I now found their group name to be 'Hymenocallis' in latin.  (A hundred different in this family alone, around the world Wikipedia says).

Love seeing the ants. Beautiful work and shots. Hibiscus looks great with that perspective. Excellent colours on all shots, nice work and results.

All the best.

Danny.
