Father-daughter day with the Pana Leica 25mm.
« on: March 03, 2012, 10:46:33 AM »
I did it. I have sold my pana 20mm and Oly 45mm and bought the Pana Leica 25mm 1.4.
It was a gamble and I was really nerveous and anxious for my first real shooting day. I hoped I could justify the sale and the high price of the Pana Leica.

The first thing that catched my eye was the size. Compared to the 20mm this lens is really big ! It is like having a legacy lens on your cam.
That's a real big disadvantage compared to the Pancake and the Oly 45mm.
But Ok, I always wear my PEN on a strap around my neck and I'm used to carry a lot of big legacy lenses.

Today I went to a playground with my daughter and shot alot of pictures and I must say that I'm really happy with IQ. The lens is sharp, contrasty, bright and has a really nice bokeh.

So compared to the 20mm I would conclude :
Cons : Big, Expensive
Pros : IQ, Bokeh

If compactness it is what you want, then go for the 20mm.

Here some samples of my Father-daughter day; Hope you like them.

They all look great. Are you happy with the swap, or too early to tell?

I'm really happy with the swap. Pictures look really good. Bokeh is outstanding. The pictures have something magical. Can't describe what. Sometimes even a 3D feeling.
The  only thing I dislike is its size. The panny pancake is really compact.
I think it is a great allround lens.
The oly 45 plays in the same league, it is on my list again. But first the OM-D. :)

These look great. The 3d effect may be part of the optical formula used. Many German lenes seem to have that quality over Jap lenses.

I am thinking about this lens to replace my 20 after I get the E-M5 1st. I thought to maybe sell the 14 also, but, no, it makes a nice street lens. But, to sell the 20 & G3, to fund the 25, will work also.

"let me in" is my favorite.

M5-User and anyone who is doubting to upgrade from their 20mm:
If size (and money) is no problem, do it !

It costs 'only' 30 percent more and it is worth it.

The Pana Leica is brighter, has a 3D Pop effect and has very smooth bokeh. It also operates and focusses faster.

It's is the first time I have the feeling being capable of producing pro pictures.
