Exotic birds and a turtle
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:09:46 AM »
Zoo wants a calendar and called a bunch of locals (a very cool thing to do), only one of mine was picked, I dont care, open cage photography at a zoo is a blast. If I ever finish editing the current wedding im doing Ill post the rest. Nonetheless Im a scareycat and shot from a safe distance using the 100-300. Theres maybe one or two at ISO 160, most are from 800-1600, and a couple of 400s. Enjoy!

Wonderful shots, all of them. Can't believe the colours and is that a Spoonbill that first one ??. That has amazing colours if it is, only ever seen black and white.

All the best and gorgeous shots and work.

Danny.

That is a perfect lens for Zoo's, these photo are just superb! The kissing parakeets are funny  :-*
The colors are outstanding, and the Owl is a bit scarey, looks pissed off.

Hi

this is all with the panasonic 100-300mm. its a good lens, really sharp  for the ridiculous focal length it offers. On panny bodies, the camera will set a slightly higher ISO even in a fairly bright day to compensate for the 600mms (despite the IS). It basically refuses to shoot below 1/125 if it can (most of these are 1/500). The owl is ISO 1600, the turtle is ISO 1250, the eagle, parrot, ducks and duckling are ISO 800. See what I mean? this is broad daylight. Nevertheless...this is a fine lens, sharp, contrasty, lightweight (for the focal length), you name it!

O gosh, sorry I ignored you for so long, I used the panasonic GH2 and lightroom to process the RAW files

Not from the same place but still exotic. From a sanctuary in a botanical garden. If panny had made me that f2 35-100 I want I wouldnt have had to shoot these at ISO 1600. That african red tail is quite hard to find...babies go for 1200$

The two are great, lisandra.  Top one is a 'ten out of ten'. Clicking on the colored bird, I almost expected to find both of you, i.e. lisandra&the 100-300 pana-lens, 'upside down' in the bird's retina.  Needle sharpness here! :)

thanks everyone for the kindness. I sure love to shoot em but I can't seem to find many bird sanctuaries. Roger, fine feathered photos of birds like these love the clarity slider in lightroom, it gives the illusion of incredible resolution without having to sharpen. I have one with similar result from the a55, but for some reason it looks smudgier (the lens maybe?)
