What can you see?
« on: June 01, 2011, 05:00:34 PM »
Reading the sRGB vs Adobe RGB thread reminded me of an online test that measures your colour (or color if you're in certain parts of the world) acuity.

I've been interested in colour for years and have been very surprised at how differently people perceive it. You only need to look at the settings they choose for their television screens to realise that.

Anyway, doing this short test should give you an idea of how good your colour acuity is -

http://www.xrite.com/custom_page.aspx?PageID=77

The quality and settings on your screen will make a definite difference here. As will ambient light reflecting off the screen. On my laptop I score a 9 but on my desktop a 40 is the best I've managed. I'd quite like to try it on a properly calibrated screen but I don't currently have a colorimeter (like the X-Rite Eye-One). Although it's possible to use test patterns and fiddle with your screen colour controls it can be somewhat futile as the settings interact with each other.

So go on, take the test and post your score - and be honest, there's no prize.

That's with the horrible ViewSonic VA703m at work and with an enormous, like 30-feet, bright, directly lit window behind my back.

More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I'm red/green colorblind and I've known this most of my life.  I'd be embarrassed to tell you how badly I scored.   :-[

Based on your information, below is how your score compares to those of others with similar demographic information.

          Your score: 10
          Gender: Male
          Age range: 60-69
Best score for your gender and age range: 0
Highest score for your gender and age range: 1520
          0=Perfect Color Acuity / 99=Low Color Acuity

I'll have to be content with that result, - my age taken into consideration.  Wish my back were as good,  :)

"0" is your goal, not 1520
The closer to "0" the better

BTW, is it only my vision that begins to play tricks after a long stare at a bright object?
