Photo Library / Organization
« on: September 06, 2011, 11:07:57 AM »
Ok, I'm going to move my library over to a large external harddrive accessed via WIFI through my Apple Extreme router.  I have a 2TB LACIE drive that I'm going to hook up.  I'm hoping to start a new Aperture 3.0 library on my harddrive.

What are the best ways/methods to utilize Aperture (or something else you recommend) for long term photo storage/library... tagging, projects, folders???

Also, how do I backup and save an Aperture Library that is on my laptop, and relocate it to my harddrive?

Well, this may stray off what you are on to, but I would highly suggest Lightroom rather than Aperture. Lightroom is incredibly easy to backup folders and file changes, simply because it makes backups of them automatically, and in it's own folder, which you can simply move to your backup drive (along with your photos.)

Also, when you add/delete pictures, all you have to do in LR is check on the folder(s) that you designated in LR to use, and select Synchronize.

I used to tag all my images with categories in ACDsee Pro3,- but, after a few times of the data somehow getting lost (Still a puzzle to me), use folders instead for this... a bit wordy, but, that's what I do. I still fear LR getting a corrupt Library file... I back it up, not just the LR auto back up, but Straight Copy/Paste backup on a separate drive....

My Sub-Folders are organized by location (Town/City/Year) and events are separate folders as the 1st sub-folders under "My Photos" main folder...
