Cross processing?
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:57:58 AM »
I apologize for the newbie question, but I have to know; what is cross processing? Isn't that a technique used in film development? And a follow up question if I may senator, how do you do it with a digital camera?

Cross processing is developing film made for one chemistry with another. The most popular approach is to develop E-6 (slide or positive) film in C-41 (negative, for print film) process.
You are going to get surreal, oversaturated colours, with a lot of color shifts, usually depending on many factors, like exposure, film age, film brand, etc.
These are frames from my first cross-processed film:

I never asked myself on how to do it in digital....maybe there is a tutorial somewhere?

That's what I thought! To do it with digital must be a photoshop deal, I have yet to use photoshop or any software like it. I'm not really sure if I want to, on one hand I'd feel like I was cheating, but at the same time it would be fun to see what I could come up with. I guess photoshop isn't too different from using the art settings on my PL-1.....

Actually no. C-41 is automatic and the film was scanned in the lab.
Thank you for the appreciation!
