I hope this THEME will inspire you to explore the possibilities of using a wide f/stop combined with a close focus point to add dynamic "out-of focus" areas to your photograph. any wide f/stop can be used: f/1.4 or f/1.7 on normal lenses, down to f/5.6 on a telephoto lens at a very close focus.

Please make this a like challenge to go out and shoot at your widest f/stop and the closest focus on your lens. Than post one or 2 results in this thread....

I'll start

Seems my original post wasn't in the spirit of the topic....so I took a few today.

These are both with the Hexanon 57mm f/1.2 on the GH2.  I think they're both at f/1.8, but I'm not positive.

And for really shallow DOF (@ f/1.2).  This is not at MFD, as MFD at f/1.2 with this lens results in basically everything but a millimeter OOF.

Thx guys!  Those blue cups are from the employee lounge of an extremely large abandoned dye company.

The crayons are excellent!

I'll try to post some more. I find the Canon FD legacy lenses pull some great bokeh. The blue cups are Panasonic 20mm though

Another 'bokeh' shot, - this one from the Pana/Leica 45mm/f2.8 on E-P1. (Still a bright pink-red hibiscus, - but not the same one as the one [above] from the Tamron-lens. I got to say that personally I prefer this kind of 'smeared out' bokeh, rather than the 'wild' type produced by the 28mm Tamron at lower f-numbers.

I wasn't actually expecting this quality out of a $10 lens:

Shot with an Industar 61 52/2.8 in LTM.

Nikkor 135mm f/2.8, at f/5.6 I think, but also at a close subject distance.
I love the smooth Bokoh this lens makes.

Dandelion

Konica 57mm at f1.4 which rather obliterates (in a way that I like) anything not in focus.
