Panoramic Photographs: Show us yours.....
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:23:14 PM »
Panasonic G1
Panasonic G 20mm f/1.7
4 photographs each....about 160 degrees... Snow is hard to keep even between photographs... but, I still like them
I used Microsoft ICE (free panoramic software)
Off a back road going home today...These are each side of a bridge over looking the stream it passes over.

It was taken in a recent hiking trip at the peak of High Junk Peak, Hong Kong.

Taken with E-P2 / mZD 9-18, 8 photos stitched with PT GUI Pro/Mac, angle of view ~ 300 degrees

@gareth
Very impressive...
Do you have a larger version in a gallery? like 1000pix wide? my screen is 1600pix wide, and it shows rather small, and there is so much detail to see.
The Google map link showing the photographs you took is cool too.

Thank you M5-user.

The URL in the above reply has been the maximal size I can post from Flickr - 2047x432 version
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5009/5313789539_a9d3db84d8_o.jpg

The original one in my HD is 9461x1997. Even with a Flickr Pro account, the pic was resized by Flickr after upload.

I showed the Google map link to tell where the place was.
The picture of sharp peak of High Junk Peak was not taken by me.
It should have come from Panoramia. :)

Hi -

If you really want to get into panoramas, try the gigapan robotic panorama head: it makes taking them extremely simple.

The original was 36 images.

http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/31353/

Not the largest I've done (that would be this one: http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/55479/, 3.64 gigapixels).

Unit looks like this (with an E510 and the 70-300 attached):

And here are two others reduced for size:

and here's one in black and white:

I recently had a 40x60 inch print made of one of the New York pictures, and the damn thing looks like a contact print. Truly, truly amazing. I only wish I could actually afford to have some of mine made into a decent size print (like, say, 5 feet by 20 feet, ca 300 dpi resolution...). :-)

You can see the rest of mine at www.gigapan.org, user JohnF. Just search on my name on that site.

JohnF

PS: No ties with gigapan besides being a satisfied customer. Been with them since the beta unit...

Truly amazing panas....

That Pana control is wee bit out of my range though.... a tripod and over lap by 30%-50% on all directions for me.

I have seen your work from another web site, quite a talent you have sir.

A 10-frame panorama taken with my Olympus E-P1 and Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95. The camera was in a portrait orientation for this. Click on the image if you want to see a bigger version in Flickr (2400 wide).

The Gigapan system has interested me since they announced their first P&S size version.  Sadly, the DSLR version is out of my price range.    Anyway, here's a pano shot I did with the Sony NEX-3 in panorama mode before I returned the camera and bought the E-PL1:

A few of clicks will take you to the 7300px version which is cropped slightly from the original shot. Not nearly as nice as the Gigapan shots.

Not sure why Gareth was having trouble uploading his larger version files to Flickr, maybe above a certain size, bigger than 7000px they get re-sized to 2048?

The DSLR version, the EPIC Pro is USD895 which in my opinion is pretty cheap for what you get.

The E-P1 will fit on the EPIC 100 which is USD499 or around the price of a modest lens. That’s an absolute bargain.

Compatibility chart http://gigapansystems.com/compatible-cameras.html

The criteria for the EPIC 100 is the camera should be no more than approx. 148 mm wide (left to right) and 69 mm deep (front to back) and weight 3 lbs (1.35 kg).

@Doug

I found out the reason why.
Each Flickr photo upload is limited to 20MB size.
I used a client software to upload in batches.
The client software resized the 24MB full size file.
I resampled the original full size picture to have a higher compression to get a smaller size file.
The full 9461x1997 photo can now be shown.

Cool!   Thanks for reporting back on what you found.  Always good to learn something new.  The full size photo is really nice, I can see that it would be easy to get hooked on making panorama photos.

Here's one taken with my E-P2 from the "Top of the Rock" in NYC, looking at Central Park.

And another from my back deck on a foggy morning.

The city one is amazing.  Makes me excited to someday be at the top of a city with my camera, even though I am afraid of heights.  Here is another city, but far less exciting and probably far more dangerous!
