Industrial Magic.
« on: November 10, 2010, 04:00:38 PM »
Inspired by a range of images posted here (most recently by Solo-P, zakkattack and n2hhr) I thought I'd start a thread for you to post your images of industrial buildings and landscapes - all m4/3 of course.

Brash, brutal and dirty or poetic and forlorn - whatever your take is....

To kick it off here are a couple from pit heads at a disused mine near Coalville in the UK originally founded by Robert Stephenson, George Stephenson's son, and closed by the Iron Lady in the '80s.

the machinery is now preserved as part of an open-air museum

Extremely interesting site but they only allow conducted tours at set times. I doubt they would give much time for set-up. We were only there for the afternoon while passing through...

The architecture in the second one is really good!

Solo, although it's not a problem here, generally posting your own photos in other people's threads can be considered rude...so please keep that in mind! Thank you!

No. 2 for Mikmas and No. 3 for Solo-P.  Shapes and colors straight on are nice.  Mikmas' shot is crying out to be in B&W!

Industrial eh?....thats all I ever see here most of the time.

These big shiny new platforms are just about finished and being loaded onto a barge in the next few days.

Great stuff Tercha and Pretzston.

Love the contrast between ultra-modern industry and the melancholy of the abandoned town......keep 'em coming!

This is a working factory where they make steel fire doors, my guess is that this is part of their shot-blasting facility (judging by the hoppers):

Managed to resist that temptation Doug or more accurately, tried it and didn't like...bit too nostalgic.

great stuff lately, what makes abandoned places look so photogenic, is it the textures, colours..??anyway thanks for creating the new thread voyager  :) didn't mean to be "rude" in all fairness, by imposing my pictures...i simply thought other people were invited to do so, and I took the opportunity to show (more) of my images in here, as I'm really enthusiastic about the theme !
@mikmas : would have been great to take a peek at other people's work and thanks for thinking about me, nice one ;) sadly I'm not gonna be in the UK at the end of this month, but if you got a link of what's going up there on I'll keep that in mind for the next exhibition, cheers!  :D

Not abandoned.  CIBA, owned by Dupont I believe, in Newport, DE across from the industrial park my work is in.  This thread inspired me to go take a photo when I left work!

Stunning pic pretzston!

Very picturesque - but what you're looking at is the remains of a blast furnace built in 1804.

The raw materials for smelting were brought in along the ramp on the bridge and stored in the main building before being fed to the fiery furnace tower at the other end. The furnace was hopelessly inefficient and the operation went bust after a few years of service.

Thanks!  I am happy with how it turned out for a quick snap.  When the commute already takes 1.5 hours, it can be hard to find time to stop for shots.  But, I have been taking my camera to work more and more so perhaps I'll stop some more.
