Why don't people like the GF2?
« on: July 03, 2011, 03:32:54 PM »
I can understand that to some it might seem like a downgrade from the GF1, but considering the fact that the body only price for both cameras is nearly the same now confuses me. It even has a great touch screen interface, so I don't get why nobody likes it. I'm even tempted to buy one.

i think people are turned off by cameras without input dials and button , i know why they do it ...to say to the novice "look just a shutter button" ...no thinking required!!
but the rest of us know all they need to serve the shootin cluelessis a green Ai iicon or something . they dont need to turn it into input crippled camera or a smartphone wanna be

that said im sure its a very good camera once you get used to changing setting with fewer or absent buttons and dials

id it becomes cheap unuf id snag one too :)

I think the GF2/3 are marketed for the people going from a p/s (Menu Driven mostly) to a better system camera. Olympus knew this with the E-P1. Still, having at least a "Mode" dial is on many p/s also.. And the "G#" series are for the "advanced" shooters.. What ever I mean by that  ::)  Even the G3 has lost the dial for the Focus selector, and moved it somewhere.

People want progress, but then fear it when it comes. ;)
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

You are spot on here.  Same reason why Olympus came out with the E-PM1  ;)

I wonder what the gf pro is gonna be like...

in spite of the sensor not being all i wished its looks like ill get a ep3
even though i hate those cooked jpegs ive seen for samples at the compare-o-meter sites for the ep3, everything else about the camera thrills me

but if a gf1 type refresh as a pro emerges first maybe ill get that first

no i will get that first 8)

I think the problem was that it wasn't progress - in fact it was more of a step back for the kind of people who were likely to buy it. So they kept or bought a GF1 instead.

The other possibility is the lenses that were bundled with the cameras. Both the 20mm and the 14-45m were/are considered to be good, even great, lenses. The replacements, the 14-42mm and the 14mm, are nothing particularly  special really.
