Tried out a GF2
«
on:
August 03, 2011, 03:11:47 AM »
From the reviews and product photos I really thought I would like this camera, but in reality I really didn't. The touchscreen interface was confusing for me to use, and it was hard to actually get the buttons to press with my fingers. I'm sure if I had more time to play around with it I would like it more, but as of now I don't quite like it as much as I did before I tried it.

I definitely like mine (technically I bought it for my GF ...), but I haven't even touched another M43 camera. I find the touch screen very usable, and I can go through the menus pretty quick. Being able to touch the screen to focus/take a shot is pretty nice. My GF (who came from a Sony P&S) really likes it.

Voyager, did you buy one...?
I am thinking of selling my G1, and get a GF2 to replace it. So, I have a non-EFV cam when I want one.

No, I didn't buy one. I didn't like it nearly as much as my E-P1.

I had a completely different experience with the GF2. I couldn't sell my E-P1 fast enough once I got it. I suppose its all what your used to but the combination of much faster AF, better LCD, AF illuminator and most of all a proper thumbwheel made all the difference to me.

So, still looking?
You show interest in the GX1, did you try a E-PL2 yet? With the tilt screen at the same price?

I still have my E-P1.
No other camera interests me enough at the moment to seriously consider it.

I tried out a GF3 and GF2 friday. I didnt expect much from it (the GF3) but IQ wise its really a noticeable step above the GF2. Much less RAW noise and a bit more detail. VS a EP 1 the difference is not drastic.

The original Panasonic LVF only being about $100 now also makes me want the GF2 though.

In fact, shooting JPEGs the difference is not that marked, but when you open RAW files...the difference is VERY noticeable. especially as the ISOs go up, the gf2 drifts further and further away from the PEN after ISO 400
