Panasonic G3 first look.. Image wise
« on: July 12, 2011, 01:44:51 PM »
Well, Got the Panasonic G3 today...
Got a new 16gb Class 10 card (811 RAW images Full size)
The first file number:  100-0001   No Sh*t

Took a few quick of my son
ISO 160 (Base) with on board flash, O/14-42 ED at 42, Standard Photo mode - all parameters at -0- (used to called Film mode)

Had to use Slikpix to develop the RAW.
BUT, all I did is batch convert to 16bit TIFFs and developed them in ACDSee Pro 3
Basic, Exposure adj, sharpen, nothing else, Then saved as a JPG.

Full size (well, a large TMN), and a 100% crop.

The Camera was at whatever the defaults are for RAW.

Looks pretty good to me! Does the camera feel plasticy like some others have mentioned?

IT has a smother surface than the G1, IE: less resistance to the feel.. IE: not that almost rubbery feel.

It is smaller than the compare images look.. I will have to have a [back to back] overhead view to show you all might give a better idea..

The Touch screen focus is way cool... While my sons was moving his head back and forth (I think he does to annoy me while try to frame a head shot  ;D) I just used my thumb to keep the spot over his eye closest to the camera. I'll have to read up on also taking a photo through the touch screen focus point though.

To me changing ISO on the screen was life changing. Do some ISO testing and see how much you like it (or not). The crops look very detailed
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Tomorrow will be by my 1st day out... taking the 20mm only as my test kit...

And since my Wife is off tomorrow night, I'll go find some night life  :D ;D (I live in a small hick town area)

I figure out something though.

The Touch Screen ISO is fast.

The Touch Screen Shutter Release is [touchy], I'll have to read up on how to use better.
