OMG I did it again!
« on: October 28, 2011, 07:46:35 AM »
Sigh.... I sent my GH2 off to Spencers last monday and now have a 590nm IR GH2 sitting on my desk!

So... Now I am waiting on the GH3 to come out!

Pictures to follow...

590nm IR GH2

But...isn't that basically orange-red light?

Right. Infrared starts around 740. This filter probably cuts off anything shorter than 590nm and allows some red a good part of the infra-red spectrum to go through.

It allows everything from 590nm up thru 1000nm.  The deep red end of the visible spectrum is what poisons the IR image allowing for the nice Faux Color!

Wow, that sounds fantastic. Is this how Kodak EIR film works, or it also allows more of the visible spectrum (I'm sort of confused by the sample images, on some it is just strong IR in the red channel, and some show other colours too)?

From an example response curve I'm looking at, at about 800nm and above all three color sensors match up, so if you had a filter pass 800nm and above, the image would turn out pretty much greyscale.  Before that (at around 600nm) blue and green slowly start creeping back in, with green always greater than blue, and red obviously always well on top.  I think color photos typically have very strong alterations to color, so its kinda hard to 'see' how it responds...

Except for the truth that at 850nm EVERYTHING is pure monochromatic.  I have several filters in this range and they generate very deep contrasty IR B&W images that are simply stunning.

I am doing well thank you!  I have been traveling for weeks doing grist mills and light houses.  Plus I threw in a 4 day Infrared workshop in the outer banks where I had 8 students!  Been very busy!
