The pictures speak for themselves. But the words, well... Chinese, anyone?

I personally don't think its "ugly" but it is incredibly plain/boring. It doesn't have that "I must buy this even though i don't know what it is" appeal.

Sort of like a LX3 on steroids.

Yeah - saw this posted in flickr too Frederico... I still think this looks so plasticy. I was expecting something more along the lines of the L1 in looks but this is a horrible piece of product design.

I'm sure it will perform quite well though. flash/evf+focus assist

Definitely doesn't look as nice/retro. But I bet all the nitpicky things that we complain about with the E-P1 like AF are done much better in the GF1.

I do like it! Black is better when you shoot in sunshine. And the less stylish style make easier that you pass unnoticed. I'm loving it. If AF perform at least as good as the G1, I'll buy it and leave this forum :-D

Nothing about it looks nice to me.

It is kind of sad that they couldn't get the same form factor as the E-P1 or the LX-3. It looks way too bulky for me.

i rather get a canon g11 than this...haha!

Can you imagine how the g11 will save you money... built in flash, optical view finder...and a 28-140mm at 2.8.

whatelse can you ask for?

and it looks better than the gf1

i just cant wait for the lens that gf1 will be releasing. I'm really dissapointed w my 14-44 3.5 and 17mm 2.8. 1st its not as wide and bright!! sometimes i miss the 24-70 f2 of my lx3

You're forgetting about sensor size.

Exactly.  I don't see the G11 performing much better than the G7-G10 that preceded it.  The G-series are great little cameras, but they still carry a significant performance hit at high-ISO settings.

Not to mention that you have absolutely no DOF control on a sensor that small.  I know m4/3 isn't anywhere close to full frame DOF control, but at least you CAN get decent subject separation.  That's the biggest reason I love my E-P1 and I'm selling my G9.  My G9 shots, while decent at low ISO, look like P&S shots.  Good P&S shots, but P&S shots nonetheless.  The Pen shots look like SLR shots.  My Pen + 17 and CV 40/1.4 make a great tiny little set.  I may trade out the 17/2.8 for the 20/1.7 when it's released, but a lot depends on price and optical quality.

the  panasonic lx3 is 24 - 60 equiv. not 24-70
the ricoh gx-200 is 24-72 :)[ and a half stop slower]

i was expecting better from panny , it looks like a piece of crap next to the well crafted metal ep-1
build quality, build quality , build quality

wake up manufactuerers, thats why i was so dissapointed with the ep-1s 14 -42 kit lens .

a 99 cent can of peas has more structural integrity, after using the, built like a tank, voigtlander lenses ,the kit lens makes feel im focusing a plastic cup.

as i understand it the g 10 sensor was 14. 6 megapixel
whereas the g 11 is 10 megapixel , if this is true it will make the g 11 perform much better at high iso`s

A little, not much, better. And still no DOF control at all.

alas no dof

but the drop to 10 mp from almost 15 should control noise much better , n`est pas?

It definitely will look great as coloured version - and I'm convincced that it will feature a much faster AF than the PEN - including to it's pop-up flash as well as it's klick-on EVF.
And the fact that I'm somewhat tired of manufacturers using their old designs to sell us their new products is another reason why I'd always prefer the GF1 to the PEN - but the latter is just a point of personal taste.

Not necessarily. My G9 is "only" 12 mp, but it has substantial noise at higher ISOs -- even more than the G10. While Canon is taking the right direction with fewer pixels, if the sensor size doesn't change, it won't make that much difference. They're counting on the combination of fewer pixels  AND their internal software processing (DIGIC IV) to reduce noise.

IMO, the larger sensor of the micro 4/3s cameras still wins. Plus, you get the DOF advantages and interchangeable lenses to balance the tradeoff of no flash or viewfinder.

sensor size is only 1\2 of the equasion ,it is the relationship between pixel size and the area of the sensor that is a primary factor in how much noise is generated , a sensor size of about that of the canon with only six megapixels would be a spectacular performer compared to the same sensor squeezing 14.6 on to the same surface . in fact there are some point and shoot cameras from the past that bear this fact out , i believe dp reviews  has some information on this phenomenon.if you read the reviews of the ricoh gx 200 vs the 100 where ricoh unwisely increased the pixel count from 10 to 12 in an otherwiise fine camera, but one known for noise issues it also touches upon the pixel packing problem.

this is not to say the the processing of the image is not important ,as more powerful computers are within our cameras with each new generation of processing engines the ability to supress noise is enhanced, but these are ultimately software tricks and do not undo or change  the relationship between pixels and sensor area

the m4\3 sensor is huge compared to any p&s sensor , the ep-1 and g1`s IQ are in a different league altogetherthan the canon, my ricohs, even the excellent  fujis
