G3 - any aftermarket eye cups?
« on: July 06, 2011, 10:35:22 AM »
So I received my G3K on Friday and spent the weekend shooting...Generally I am happy with the camera--the AF is fast, the controls and menus are straightforward. The camera does feel a bit plasticky and fragile but so far seems to be holding up well. I don't really use the display or touchscreen much, I find I'm spending at least 50% of my time controlling the camera through the EVF. The focus modes are very nice with a lot of options and controls and using the body with a manual focus lens works well too.

Using the EVF in bright light is tricky (for some reason, much more difficult than the E-VF2 on my E-P2). I wear eye glasses so that could be part of my problem. The rubber bumper on the viewfinder looks like it could be removed and replaced with a proper eye cup, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of any aftermarket options for larger eye cups?

Do you know what the specs are for that eyepiece? Most might not fit the EVF of the G3.

That's a shame that the camera feels plastic and fragile though.

does the camera have diopter correction? you can play with that and take the glasses off
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Alas, my glasses are for astigmatism (strong astigmatism), not for near/far-sightedness so the diopter won't do me any good.

Been having a lot of fun with the G3, it's got some nice zoom capabilities for manual focus lenses and the EVF is sharp/clear enough to get very good focus with shallow DoF. (The E-VF2 is not quite as good in that regard, in my rough estimation.)

The touch screen, though, I could really do without (and I do!) It's an embarrassment of slow responsiveness, making it unusable for anything. Tried to show a friend some pics and resorted to the "d pad + zoom wheel".
