Nay, it looks weird, I tried to find something I liked. And my Uncle (Richard Henry Arbib) was a designer decades ahead of his time.. He designed the Hamilton Watch (in 1954) that was made famous in the Men In Black. among other cool stuff.
So, I liked it because of the design factor,

Don't think its any uglier than the Olympus E300( ghetto cam) was. It had those borg like parts pasted on. At least the Pentax has two tone going for it.

 M5-User, enjoyed the family history!

I don't get it.  It looks like a no frills camera.

Ghetto cam?? I used an E-330 for years (still have it) and consider it one of the most innovative and ergonomic designs Olympus ever had, and it makes damn good photos. It might be called chunky but everything is where it should be and the package fits my hand like a glove. The only quibble I have with it is the pivoting screen (similar to what the E-M5 will feature) that for my purposes is inferior to a fully articulating screen.

Not dissing the E300. Owned one for years. Ghetto Cam was it's nick name on another 4/3 forum. I didn't invent the name. It was used as a term of affection ( along with borg).

The E330 has a more refined - less industrial look. I own the E330. It also takes great images- though imho the E300 pics have a certain something color wise that the E330 lacks.

The E300 is uglier than the E330 and has to be in any discussion of ugly DSLRs. I am considering the yellow Pentax K-01. Might walk down the street using it and E330. Could be fun to be shunned like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Lol

thanks
barondla.

I agree... At first, I thought it was hideous. Now the looks are starting to grow on me. It's almost as if the plastic "toy camera" look of the yellow one is begging you to throw on a holga lens and create some low fi magic.

It would be perfect if it had a new kind of lens mount, with a lower flange-back-distance. Then the design would not have to incorporate this collar around the lens mount and the camera as a whole would be more pleasant. The choice of materials and colours do indeed remind of a toy camera, but the price tag and choice of lenses will probably not complement that.

Then again, the price tag on any of the m4/3rds cameras don't really scream "toy camera" either... Won't stop me from putting a holga lens on a e-m5.  But I see what you mean.

I can't believe someone is comparing the beautiful and functional Leica to this horrid Pentax monstrosity.  :(

I guess that's the sort of "design market" Pentax is going for! I wish them luck.

Of course. The K-01 seems to be an incredibly capable camera. It's just the ugliest incredibly capable camera I've ever seen.

I still think Pentax is trying out internal components for a very different mirror-less camera in K mount down the road.
