Sony NEX, who is interested?
« on: May 19, 2010, 09:55:33 PM »
They're not the prettiest looking cameras I've ever seen, and I don't quite understand the body size when the lenses are still fairly big, but that's just me. Anyone like them? Getting one?

I haven't seen one. The hands-on experience is more important, I think. Same with NX10 here - a seemingly repulsive camera may turn out to be pretty convinient and good to the touch. One can't really say before he actually handles the camera.

The more I read about it the less I think it’d be satisfactory to the likes of us. It seems as if we’d have to battle against a UI built purely for camera users rather than photographers. I severely doubt I could consider myself “in control” of that device.

This surely comes from the intended users of this system - it seems to be just made for the P&S croud.

with then incredible shrinking they could have produced a normal shaped compact body with evf and input dials and with the 18 mm flange to sensor distance a m mount adapter and it would have rocked the camera world , but being sony they didnt

sony should be slapped

The only thing I think they missed on is body stabilisation. I'd be tempted if it had that, as I really want the tilting high res screen. I don't want to rely on lens stabilisation as they never put it in pancakes.

I'd guess the EVF might make an appearance on the NEX7, but certainly for smaller bodies it is absolutely right not to include one.

Yeah, they really wanted to make them really small, I guess this is why they omitted in-body IS.

No.
Especially so after viewing different photo samples in the internet.
It's the latest one I viewed on Japan DC Watch.

Those look terrible. I think the PEN has better noise reduction than this, which is ironic because they claim that the larger sensor creates less problems with it.

Do be careful, as in a previous look at those samples, they weren't like for like settings. And you're also trying to guess between sensor and lens characteristics. To my pixel peeping, there really isn't much in it. The APS-C sensor samples they have (Sony and Canon) do look less noisy but at the same time they look a little softer. I suspect the difference is in the processing, as you always trade between noise and detail. I'll reserve judgement until I see some well controlled consistent like for like tests, but so far I'd say the NEX performs where it should, not better or worse. And that's as pixel peeping, in normal use they're all good. As long as it is good enough, image quality is not the biggest concern for something like this...

Great, I will now have to wait and see what these Sony's have in store for us. Sounds promising if it's got an OVF. Hopefully a hi res LCD, and fast AF. But how long will it take for lenses to appear and how will they be priced. I'm still leaning to Panasonic G2 at this stage, although new Oly firmware looks good.

I also heard that Sony will be making a NEX camcorder, with interchangable lenses... That sounds pretty nice. With the right adapter I can fit my Canon FD lenses on it. :)

Ah, here you go:
