Most DSLR models, apart from possibly some older ones, have ISO settings that were beyond reasonable use. Beyond that, make sure it isn't unfounded FUD from the anti-MP crowd. It is a non-issue. If there are "odd" values, it may just be a scale realignment to make for easier reading at higher numbers. Again, not really an issue.

No AF micro-adjust would be a big deal breaker for me, in the same way Canon 60D fell short of the mark you might as well get the 600D.

That 16-50 price if true puts it in the same ball park as competitive lenses, so that's reasonable.

Weather resistance, again competitive if you look at the mid range CaNikons.

Fast GPS - why didn't they put that in the HX9V? :P

Latest on sonyalpharumors is Sony have introduced electronic 1st curtain to speed things up a bit. Canon have had this... for a while so it isn't new technology in itself. It saves the curtain closing before re-opening to take a shot and helps for live view style usage.

NEX AF speed - as I've said before, it doesn't need to get ever faster if it is fast enough. As long as it is, the benefit from going even faster isn't significant. I have to wonder in the case of the NEX if the lenses were designed for particular fast focus, and if not, then future ones may do better.

I wouldn't write Sony off on any of the above, although the mythical A77 is starting to lose a bit of its shine given how late to the game it is.

Mythical A77? Haven't you seen the photos of it?

I think he was referring to the godlike status it was given these past months.

The A77, being the successor to the A700, has had its hype blown up as the years gone by while people were waiting for it. Maybe another word than mythical would have been more appropriate... erm.... legendary? Infamous? Well, usual disclaimers still apply. It isn't over until it is official.

I don't like SONY Nex cameras: they are disproportionate--body to lens . However, I really like the built in viewfinder. That said, I would never buy the camera. I am hoping it does well so that Olympus is forced finally follows through and release its own built-in version.

SOO, the day has come. The viewfinder IS leaps and bound above anything out there, and its actually bigger than the A900 OVF. No tearing, no lag, no rainbowing, no pixel effect. The camera itself is as pro level as it can get, it fixes EVERY single gripe I have with the A55, customizable to the bone and with peaking mode. At 1300$ its not bad, my partners pay 60% of my gear updates I could get it for about 600$, but that would mean paying for the GH3 (if I get it) from my own pocket...On the other hand if I get this I wouldn't have to buy another APS C for years to come...Dpreview preview is up, they love the crap out of it. ISO performance seems to be exactly 1/3 to 1/2 stop better.

If I hadn't jumped in Pentax for my "proper" DSLR, I would buy this for sure.
BTW, I assume it has all the features that normal a-mount cameras have? I.e. IBIS and full compatibility with old Minolta/Sony/third party glass?

The NEX7 seems to answer every question. It has a nice large grip for holding the camera securely. An apparently amazing EVF built-in and with no "bump". No fewer than three dials that are completely customisable. Insane shot speed and frame rate. Full HD with total manual control. Plus what we have come to expect from this line: Tilt screen for waist-level shots. Peaking for manual focusing. Plus it looks incredible.

Certainly the fact NR cannot be totally disabled is a big turn off for me, but then again high ISO is not the only reason to use a camera. Besides, I use a Pentax for when I want better IQ than my MFT. It's also way beyond what I would spend but for a premium camera that's not unexpected.

Sony is innovating on all fronts... while Olympus stands still.

That's a bit ignorant to say, after the latest AF achievements of E-P3/PL3/PM1 with newest "R" lenses, that lock AF faster and more accurately than most DSLRs.
Anyway, not willing to hijack another thread.

not crazy about this new sensor , it has stepped significently backwards in terms of high iso performance in order to scoop the 24 mp bragging rights

tell me if im wrong , but i see significent banding  at 6400 and 12800 iso settings, i consider both unusable
3200 looks ok.... but close examenation of even as low as a 1250 iso setting , im seeing and unexpected large amount of "cooking" of the image , in indoor shots ,im reminded of high end point and shoot quality , which i feel is unacceptable

i wish they had designed the sensor to act as a 12 or 24 mp sensor in order to optomise low noise at lower pixel counts

for all other considerations i think the nex is a superb camera

i think some sensors in the past achieved or almost achieved sensors with such a duality....i think ???

It's a great viewfinder if you're not left handed (or left eyed).

Regarding the noise increase with a higher resolution sensor... I haven't done the math, but I believe if you just resize your large resolution image to, say 1/4 the area (half each dimension) the noise decreases similarly to if you just had a sensor with 1/4 the number of pixels with the same sensor size.  The image reduction averages 4 pixels into 1 pixel, which averages out the effects of noise.  The two different 'reductions' should be pretty similar in effect yes?

the size per se of the noise would be reduced but itll still be there, and youll reduce the rest of the image too. Right now it appears that the camera is in fact noisier, but the feature set is terribly difficult to ignore, it really does deal with every gripe I have with the A55. It also makes me realize that the GH2 is quite packed with some serious little details that no enthusiast/pro could live without. Like 1/3 stops ISO increments, release without focus confirmation and top ISO limit change.
