Samsung wants to "own"the mirror-less market!!!!!
« on: February 23, 2010, 07:55:30 PM »
samsung has thrown down the gauntlet to "own" the mirrorless camera market

they also said firmware updates would be used as a customer relationship builder and not just a bug fix tool

and they were surprised that for every 100 cameras they sell they sell 50 30mm f2 pancakes , are these guys finally buying a clue????

amusing, but with a mount shared with no other maker?
okay, so they have a bundle of adaptors (so do we)

and m43 has the head start with several camera bodies already

They should join with MFT rather than go thier own mount and design cameras that are not pig-ugly.

dcap , peter , agree with both wholeheartedly,....... greaaaaaat adapters .... samsung welcome to the party that started almost a year ago......but with the inability to mount a rangefinder lens id say samsung in this regard your an also ran .

rangefinder lenses are a much better size match for the m4\3s mount [ slr lenses are excellent if larger too!] samsung designing the new mount missed the boat imho

Well maybe if their new line fails then they'll reconsider joining Micro Four Thirds.

They will likely not. If they do, then everybody will know that they failed. Having failed and quietly withdraw is more likely to save their corporate image.
They should join with MFT rather than go thier own mount and design cameras that are not pig-ugly.
m4/3 is known to be initiated and owned by Olympus. They would then admit that they can not design a lens mount themselves, and thus also admit that Olympus is a more advanced and technologically superior player than them.
Also, joing m4/3 will likely draw less attention to Samsung itself, and more to the true initiator and owner of the standart - Olympus.
Announsing that you designed something new and claiming out loud that it is superior to rivals will itself create more fuzz about you yourself, rather than simply joining somebody else's initiative.
So, up short - the reason for the new Samsung mount is pure marketing, not technology.

Doesn't Samsung currently use the Pentax K-mount on its SLR cameras?

Pay your licencing fee and save the develompent cost.

Anyway, the MFT will happily take my Robot mount lens but the Samsung won't.

Sure they did. Did you hear about them making a tremendous success with that?

Sure you will have to develop the camera body and lens itself. The mount seems like a minuscule drop in the process.

I guess this is not the only reason you have a PEN, not an ugly samsung.

http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Samsung-TL500-First-Impressions-Digital-Camera-Review-21542/Conclusion.htm

24-72 f1.8 to 2.5 lens raw and full manual , if the iq is there then this machine will eat my beloved p&s breakfast

, the gx200 a raw and manual 24-72 2.5 to 4.4 pros point and shoot  ricoh doent overcook its jpegs in this amazing tiny shooter so iso above 200 is dissapointing , but at iso 64 its the best pand s around imho

Someone should make a test on optical resolution. F/1.8 sounds promising, but it will not be me using this camera.
I would rather buy one for my sister, if the IQ turns to be good indeed.
Never used Ricoh, sorry.
But we were talking about NX line of interchangeable lens cameras from Samsung. Sure these are way too different.

Samsung made great strides over the years with their consumer electronics.. the make a few really nice TV's. If you would have asked me 15 years ago if I would have had a Samsung TV, I would have laughed at you. I wouldn't count them out. That being said, companies  whose livelihood depends on them making good cameras and lens generally have the upper hand as the can't afford to have bad products.
