I totally agree with you! In fact it looks like E-PL1.

respectfully disagree , i like its functional form and ricohs build quality makes everyone nikon canon etc look like childrens toys by contrast

look at the cx 3 another ricoh, its design and proportionsl make the cookie cutter designs of the rest of the market of compacts look like a poorly executed joke , imho

Well, you may have a point, cosinaphile, I trust your judgement completely since I never saw a Ricoh camera. Nobody seems to sell these where I live.

How was the Ricoh 35mm point and shoots superior to the Nikon 35Ti/28Ti, Konica Hexar AF series, Contax TV series, or Minolta TC-1 high-end point and shoot cameras? Ricoh have also come up with some pretty low-end cameras in their time. I am sure the Ricoh digital will be a good camera--but I do not think disparaging other manufactures is needed or even accurate.

The Ricoh 35mm pocket cameras that everyone else carried when I carried a Contax T-VS were invariably far superior to my useless T-VS in almost every way.

It wasn't "superior" to my Konica Silver in any way. The Contax T2 is highly regarded.

i totally agree with you short list  of great film compacts Finder  , all those cameras are true gems in photo history,i agree they all  have greatness and specialness and have earned their cult status

the Nikon  28\and 35 ti so tiny and beautiful , i wished  owning such machines. the tiny tc-1 was another even tinier  miracle

one of may favorite machines EVER was my Contax g1 w 45 and 90 lenses that i actually owned , exquisite

hexars ? they are outstanding , who could disagree?

my point is sadly.... that contax is dead [ rip] :( , the great firms nikon and canon and others do not make a compact wide enuf or fast enuf or well amde enuf  for my needs ,

they just dont seem to care about  making a really wonderful  point and shoots in the digital age the way they did at the end of the last millineum, nor seem willing to make a really special small camera  now and then, in digital like they did 10 to 20 years ago ....like the cameras you listed in your post

today if you want a really well made point and shoot your options ar e really limited

ricoh makes a bunch, gx 200, grd 28 1.9 cx3 etc

panny makes the wonderful lx3 and the leica clone Dlux4

canons g 11 dissapoints  me and nikon has never made a digital point and shoot that ever made my heart race like the ep1 the gf1
gx 200, lx3 etc

i want a digital contax i want a digital xa, or fuji xpan i want something special ,

the leica x 1 is a  2000 dollar Jewel like piece of crap with an f 2.5 lens, no image stab, and a process engine and af speed that makes the ep1s lackluster  af performance  look stste of the art
