Recommend a good Medium Format Rangefinder camera?
« on: June 24, 2011, 11:24:24 AM »
Can anyone recommend a good quality medium format rangefinder?  I need something with manual focus that I can shoot IR film in.  I would hope to get a zoom lens from wide to medium angle if possible but yet still stay in the $700 range for the complete system.  There are just so many of them out there that I don't know what is good.

Fuji GA645 Professional Medium Format (Fixed short zoom, AF)
Fuji GA645 AF with MF Zone Focusing $499.00 BIN
It is a P/S basically... with an excellent lens and a 645 format.. It does not have a True RF, but in MF mode it has a distance scale that lets you know at what distance the lens if focused on.

A small review/preview of the Fuji GA645

I don't think there is any other RF like this one... the other Fuji's (xx670's) have interchangeable lenses and more expensive, And the Mamiya 6 or 7 are costly also.

The old-school version of the Fuji was fun too, if you can find one in good shape:

I also used something for several years called a Plaubel-Makina that was a 6X7 folder with a nikkor lens (!), great camera but tricky to service the rangefinder if it gets out of registration. There was also a wide angle version that was rare and lusted-after.

Most likely you are informed of the Fujifilm GF670 (120 & 220 film - 6x6cc & 6x7cm). Lens is 80mm, (135film > 40mm @ 6x6.  44mm @ 6.7.  Nor easy to find around the world, - bhfhotovideo lucky to have them in stock (only 'silver', though, not black).  Voigtlaender (made by Fujifilm) costs a bit ($500) more, - basically same camera.  If I where in NY now, this one would be my first buy!  But, I know, double the price you asked advise for.  (Not sold in this country, very difficult to find even in HongKong, - Taiwan advertises them on eBay for betw. $2,300 & $3,800 !
