They had a prototype before anyone else. Mirrorless with slr flange back distance is however uberly stupid, IMHO.....

Says it has an optical view finder... and k-mount super huge back distance... but no mirror. So it's like a rangefinder style viewfinder? But without the small size advantage... maybe they plan on making lenses that go way inside the camera to cut down on the size a little, but still... weird.

it has a K mount? so it works with current k mount lenses? it has a different flange distance but somehow works with current lenses? theyll give up their flagship sensor for their first mirrorless?

The lens mount defines the flange-back too. It isn't possible to have a different flange-back distance and work with k-mount lenses. Unless an additional optical system is used inside the camera body, which is hardly the case.

From the two aps-c sensors that they have now, they are going to put the better one in their first mirrorless, yes.

I know, then what's the point of this camera then? It seems like suicide, pentax isn't stupid (weeeell, there is the Q...) and another thing, how is this thing gonna focus?

My question exactly.

About focusing - dslrs are able to focus in LiveView, with the mirror up and PDAF out of the game, but it's nowhere as fast as even the slowest m4/3 cameras.

Soooo, its a K5 in mirror lock up mode? This is why I dont believe this camera is real, unless the specs change by a lot it cant be real. Theres no advantage in size because of the flange distance (weeell, it could be thiner everywhere else other than the mount), theres no way itll focus those lenses faster than even modern point and shoots. Ive focused PDAF cameras in live view, it suuuuuucks... to say the least.

If its real then this is the most absolute half ass attempt of a camera ever made and Id rather go get a Q if I had the choice.

For this to be plausible it needs either 1. a new mount (which pentax cant afford now) or 2. PDAF points on the sensor or 3. a translucent mirror

1. If they ditch the mount, noone's gonna buy it. Hardcore fans won't buy anything that is not k-mount, and pretty much these are the only people who buy pentax and don't throw it out of the window soon ater;
2. Possible, but highly unlikely. The only camera that does that so far, still relies on CDAF for precise focusing, and old lenses are just not good at that;
3. Even less logical, having in mind that it only improves focusing in video mode, but, wait, that's pentax, who said that it was going to be logical, or even working?

It is just suggested because the Registration is the same as the DSLRs. But, I see High End DSLRs being safe.
That could be long term thinking with Pentax/Ricoh, to move to Mirror-less K mount Cameras. They already have over 50 years of lenses that will work
