the high end one looks nice , why cant they produce fast kit zooms with these new smaller formats ??
that alone would make people say "well i see at least one advantage" with micro 43 sized glass elements in a tiny lens they could have had a tiny f 2.8 lens ,m whats the pioint of tiny lenses  then??

About time they released something.

But not something like this, I hoped to see something less toy-like.

the enthusist level model would be trying to lure owners \admirers of machines like the olympus zx-1 [fast zoom]...ricoh gx200[24-72equ 2.5 -4.4]..canon s 90\95\100 [fast zoom] the samsung ex1 [24-72 equ f 1.8-2.4!]..etc etc .

 now comes the fujifilm x10 with a bigger sensor thanthe aforementioned to kick some ass , it will also have a fast zoom 28-112 2-2.8?

what does nikon do ? sell a 900 dollar compact with the same speed zoom as is found in their ,piece of crap, coolpix cameras , there is no reason other than stupidity or greed  or as i suspect completely missing the point that this sensored camera though a bit larger is not offered with a kit zoom of 2.8 to 4 the sensor is small enuf that glass the size of the new oly kit zoom, properly designed, could have nmade for a lovely fast zooml

dont they realize what a coup this would have been ? but being nikon, they always seem to get something wrong, sometimes majorly wrong, when making a compact camera, and this new system seems another example of this .

lots to like , lens lineup a major fail  a 30 mm 1.4 [84mm equ portrait length]in the launch lineup would have gotten them headlines  and admiration from across every well read site across the internet and print publishing world, so of course nikon didnt do it .also  a macro at launch would not have hurt either neither would a 55- 200mm 3.5 -4.5 inexpensive super zoom[156-568mm equiv]

so sad such an incredible effort from nikon with such lackluster lens lineup systems need lenses not the promise of future lenses

I did not see any Semi-Auto or manual settings 
A $1k point and shoot with interchangeable lenses.... REALLY    

Lenses are almost as big as the old panny kits and pancakes (but not as fast).

 Panny pancake zoom makes this obsolete.

900$ for the v. Why not a epl3 (that has better everything) body only with a panny pancake zoom for more or less the same?

Even the lower spec model is 700$.

I'm anxious to meet the first person who buys this, I wanna perform some tests. Not on the camera...on him/her!

One thing about the new Nikons that has been overlooked:

"Sensor pitch. Without getting too deep into the bigger is better arguments, note that the photosite size on the Nikon 1 is about the same as on the NEX-7 (3.4 microns versus 3.9). From a m4/3 user point of view I'm glad because my investment is safe with this announcement. On the other hand I'm sad because I was hopping for something equal or better than 4/3's in sensor size. At this point Sony as the best camera (nex7) but lacks lenses. Micro 4/3 as good lenses but lacks a good rangefinder style body.
I hope Canon does it right.
By the way Sony, why did you have to spoil the nex7 with a 24mp sensor?

why nikon made the lenses so slow ill never understand

they want to launch a system that will be taken seriously, and then they put photo gimmicks on a command dial ...but  bury PSAM under  layers of menu?
ouch , its painful to witness, the fastest lens in a 28mm prime? at 2.8 pathetic with a smaller sensor? no fast "normal" at launch ? no fast portrait 30ish mm at launch ?nikon ...nikon ...nikon.. shame on you , i was so looking forward to something on point with nikon here .....they know how to do an slr system

trueless clueless , i saw a publicity photo of an elderly nikon executive holding up both cameras and thought to myself , has this gentleman ever shot as an enthusist and shared the understanding of what real shooters want in a camera?
every great compact is offered with a fast wide zoom today

As much as a fan I am of m4/3s, I really wanted this to succeed. The potential for ultimate pocket interchangeable lens point and shoot is right there! Maybe on the next cycle?
