The C-mount has neither AF capability nor aperture indexing or control. A funny toy it's gonna be.

Um, the sensor is gonna be 1/2.33 inch...
Also, this is the pentax mirrorless everyone is talking about..
Also, nikon apparently wants to do something just like this..
Also, 1/2.33 inch sensor is, um, really REALLY small.
Anyone interested?
Things like these puts other things into perspective; Im gonna go write something positive in the fuji x100 topic right now.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

That only makes sense assuming one thing: low price. The small sensor should mean it can take pretty much any C-mount lens without worrying about image circle. I wonder if it will take C or CS mount though... they're the same mount essentially, but CS is closer to the sensor and it's easy to mount C-mount lenses on CS mount by extension tube to get the correct distance.

What's the point of it being a mirrorless camera if the sensor size is that small?

Wait wait, I was wrong! This is not the pentax model, the pentax model is gonna be exactly like this! So double suck!

In one respect, this is an interesting concept but I wonder who is going to buy this?

That list of names that may be selling this rebranded camera are interesting. Around 1990, I bought a Sanyo Video 8 camera which was aslo sold under Pentax, Nikon and other brand names.
Be nice to each other, life is too short for anything else.

That's the only configuration feasible for it. A mirror box that small would be difficult to make and looking at a 5mm ground glass isn't going to make much sense either.

Small sensor = small lenses = small overall!

This is almost one of my "dream camera" configurations. I wanted a DSLR with a smaller sensor than even 4/3, because the lenses and everything get smaller too. Of course, the biggest disadvantage with doing that on SLR is the OVF will be pretty small and/or dim. It makes much more sense to do a SLT or EVIL with a tiny sensor. The only problem with C-mount is no AF or aperture control unless they put some kind of addition on the mount. If the Pentax version doesn't use C-mount, that could be it.

In short, I'm looking for the highest quality in a small size. I'm not looking for the smallest size for a high quality. I'd say right now, compacts can provide a similar quality (noise equivalent at low to moderate ISOs, say to 800) comparable to APS-C from a few years back. If APS-C was "good enough" then, compacts can be "good enough" now.

I know I'm looking at this from an "exposure equivalent" point of view, not "DoF equivalent", so the usability and suitability of such theoretical systems may vary on the application. I'm not in any way suggesting this would be good for every application, but it could be "good enough" for a whole lot.

the canon g12 and oly's new xz1 (or however its named) certainly blew my socks off at ISO 1600 but other compacts are far from usable even at ISO 400.
The problem with this camera is that you can get a bigger sensored xz1 with a fast aperture zoom lens that equally as portable (or even more portable being that the lens retracts itself) as this thing. Theres only so much processors can do to squeeze quality out of a sensor that small.

4 things...

1. There is a lot of interest for C mount lenses for adaptation....if you have a collection of these what better than a native mount body to mess around with.
2. as popo said - the lenses range from small to tiny so less baggage to lug around
3. projected price is cheap at around $300, if this includes a starter lens it's a no-brainer
4. the idea of a camera the size of my IXUS with interchangeable lenses is just too mad....reckon it'll be 'Big in Japan'

Unfortunately, judging by the display pic, it doesn't really look that small.....

Lisandra,
You are judging the device in question as a tool, that you may or may not use in your work.
I would rather think that it is meant as a toy. An expensive one, though.
