Is anyone getting a NX10?

I don't think I will, but it's definitely a nice camera although not the best looking one.

The first one. The crop factor is 1.5 times instead of 2.

It's ugly.

It's relatively big.

It uses a Samsung lens mount.

...I think not, seeing how long they stayed in the DSLR market I wouldn't want to invest in something like this that might pop out of existence early on. M4/3s for me I think, though I'm sure that people that buy this (provided Samsung come up with some good lenses, or legacy lenses are easy to use) should manage to get some great pictures, I just don't think it's for me, especially since I've heard a rumour you'll be able to download "Apps" to it.... *shudders*

I hate that 1.5x crop factor.  You get little advantage in greater DOF and focal distance, but all the minuses of a cropped sensor.  Plus, the math is harder to do in your head.  That's one of the main reasons why I went m43 vs. sticking with Nikon.  There is no motor in body to control auto-focus, so I might as well get the K-mount adapter for m43 instead.  The size is just as big as the Pentax K-x, except the Pentax is a better camera.

However, You will not be able to mount it, if it's M-mount. Screw mount might work.

will the lens relief needed even make it possible to use Leica M mount on the NX10?
(can you see anyone making an adaptor for this - solo - mount?)

count me as a:  NO

To be honest, I’d really like it if Nikon made a move like this.

m4/3 is itself proprietary too. The official site sais it is open, but it is not.

My understanding was that: 4/3 is open, whereas micro4/3 is not.

But then, my sources might not have been authoritative.

I still can’t help musing over what a micro-F would be like, for a mirrorless Nikon. It’d be interesting if an open APS-C mount were to arrive.

Both are not. You have to pay money and sign a non-disclosure agreement in order to access the documentation.

handled the NX-10 today
« Reply #16 on: February 26, 2010, 12:53:42 PM »
wow ... okay ... so:  to anyone above not wanting this camera.  Have you played with it.

It is really rather good in hand.  I played with it at lunchtime today.  Without lens its real thin.  Shop only had the kitzoom, not the 30/2, shame.  With that pancake attached its gonna be a small set-up.  Body is really solid metal, buttons are a bit more impressive than the ones on the E-P1.

Overall, I was impressed.

Do I want one, well, if it was free and if the 30/2 is any good then yes please.  Would I buy one today.  No.  But its a nice bit of kit.

I changed my mind, guys!
I saw it occasionally in a store today and played with it for a couple of minutes - it is indeed a nice camera, bot convenient, easy to handle and good looking up close.
The EVF is bright and switches on when you approach it with you eye, but pixels are visible inside, and magnification when focus assisting does not seem sufficient, although it might be adjustable via a menu setting.
The kit (and so far only one available around) lens is 18-55, and is not drastically bigger than 14-42 Oly, at 18mm it is very compact, although not colapsible. The lens mount is plastic on both lens and the body, and the focusing ring is very loose and not very pleasant, but the zoom ring is fine.
The front element does not move when focusing.
Flash is weak, but predictable and seem enough for fill flash use.
There is a dial, which is on top of the camera, behind the shutter release.
I liked this little camera and I was very close from buying it.
It is also cheaper than E-P2 and E-P1, but more expensive than E-PL1, although it seems more functional than all.

I discovered that the supplied software is “Windows” only, which is no use at all. I can definitely cross Samsung off my list of manufacturers to patronise, from now on.

Shame, as it seems a nice bit of hardware, but totally unsupported on the software side unless you’re an office worker or administrator.

For your information, Samsung Raw Converter 3.1 for Mac support NX10. It is available
at this address : http://www.samsungimaging.com/learn/digital-camera-camcorder/productDetailView.do?prdCtgSeq=205&langPrdSeq=6033
(under the Download --> Software Tab).

I've tried it, and was tempted to buy it, because i found if form factor more interesting than the G2 (less bulkier).
The EVF is bright, but the colors of the pictures on the LCD, seems to be cold and less natural.
Finally, i've bought a E620 with the pancake, because I don't want a new mount (as I already have a eP2, GF1 and E510(being replaced by the E620))
and because, as I'm a Mac and Aperture User, I don't want something that needs to be preprocessed before being integrated in Aperture.

That’s interesting — a lot of reviews mention the inexplicably one-sided software support, but now it seems they’re all wrong.

I find that more and more these days I’m becoming critical of the OS support of a company, rather than what their product is like. I assume a camera is going to work, but what my satisfaction will hinge on is how irritating the integration into the rest of my technical life will be.

For example, the last phone I bought was my Sony Ericsson W800i, which will be my last Sony Ericsson, since it doesn’t even sync to the computer at all. I’m not about to go hunting for this add-in and that bolt-on software kludge to make it work. It has to “just work”. Sony Ericsson seems to not.

The Olympus software was a terrible experience — it doesn’t look or feel like Mac software should, and crashed, so I never ended up using it at all. Fortunately I never needed to use RAW on that camera when I had it. Then iPhoto was able to read the RAW after a while, but I still never needed RAW.

What I want is no new proprietary weird RAW formats when there’s already DNG. What I want is no awkward self-written software utilities without which a large portion of the functionality of the device is missing. I want it to work with the default provided software on the computer in the first place. If the manufacturer provides software, it must be a proper app that looks and feels like a professional app, not some half-finished programming exercise that wouldn’t get more than barely a pass if a student wrote it. And most of all, I see no point in only supporting the microsoft OS — I don’t use it. A product must support all three main OSs. And it can easily do this by keeping the raw format to DNG, and keeping everything standard and open.

Which one, by the way? I was on gentoo for years, then went to ubuntu, but now since the past weekend I’m halfway through reinstalling gentoo but on an external drive on a netbook.

Ironically (and back to topic) for ages, the laser printer I used to have was a Samsung, bought because of their advertised compatibility with Linux – and that was in 2003!
