Fuji didn't think very far ahead
« on: January 06, 2012, 08:21:54 PM »
In creating a mirrorless system that can only have an EVF with prime lenses, did they really think it would be successful? Remember what happened to Contax, the brand that they are imitating the idea from?

Some people thought the X100 would be a failure.... ;)

Addendum: Contax G series had a zoom (35-70)
Contax also had abysmal marketing....

The ovf works with the primed launched, it'll work with future primes and for zoom lenses it'll switch to an evf.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

I would rather have the Fuji X-Pro 1 and 3 prime lenses over a Leica M9 with one fast lens.  I think you'll end up saving about $5K, and have better resolution.

i see absolutely no reason thde system cannot  have both zooms and primes.... the worst case scenario is the evf will be necessary
but at this point it isnt sure that the ovf cant handle a zoom

aswas said the contax g  could and a 35-70 3.5-5.6 was made

i applaud fuji for launching with  3 important fast primes a 28mm fov f2 a 53mm fov 1.4 and a 90 mm fov 2.8 macro.... it is a brilliant and fearless strategy
that will earn them tons of money  and also the respect of many a shooter including me

i wish olympus [or panny ] had the guts to do that out of the gate instead of waiting   almost 3  years to give their customers the 45mm f2.... but it seems oly is finally waking up having snoozed since the launch of the groundbreaking ep1 ....im happy for that

fuji will teach the entire industry  how to do mirrorless  ,,,,,,they have proved they havre the courage to produce a machine like the x 100 and the x 10

not perfect cameras  but very good with stellar iq.... i trust the x pro will build on what fuji learned with the first x series cameras ....nobody wishes that this is a brilliant camera in every way more than fuji ........not even me  :)

They are indeed doing it right. 3 fast and dare I say Sharp primes right off the bat instead of giving us 2 years of wait and something like 6 worthless slow kit lenses along the way is the right way to launch a system.

The savings would actually come to around 7000$-17000$, depending on which prime you get.

The "masses" have voiced their views - & it looks like Fuji made the correct move in introducing 3 primes..... 8)

I think Fuji may be looking at the possible Leica M9 buyer also....

the M9 sells $7k (M9 in Gray Paint),
28/2 $4.3k,
50/1.4 ASPH $4k,
90/2.5 $1.9K
-------------------------------------
$17.2K M9 with same Leitz lenses

SO, that is $17k vs $4-5k, a savings of around $12K
.... If, not having a "Leica" is less important than having a system that is comparable in IQ, and size.. granted, the Quality of the Fuji may not be "Leica QC", but, remember, Fuji makes lenses for Hassalblad under the Carl Zeiss brand....And a few bodies also... The X-Pan comes to mind.  So, Fuji is no start up company in Great Glass...

And Leica M's have no "Zoom"... instead they have one lens that have 3 separate Focal Lengths... and it is $5.7K

Leica Tri-Elmar: 28/35/50 f/4

Yep - I stated this in the D4 thread.
IMHO, this Fuji system is a Leica M9 competitor...... 8)
