coolest. feature. ever.
« on: June 11, 2011, 08:55:45 PM »
I thought the center manual focus confirmation on the A55 was cool, but this is too much... It paints red WHATEVER is in focus at the moment AND it works with adapted lenses. The video is a nex c3 with a jupiter 85mm f 1.2. I want it on MFT. Today.

New Sony NEX C3 Manual focusing with "peaking" mode.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

That's a cool feature (I hope it is not patented by Sony so that we can see it in Pany/Oly).
BTW, the jupiter is F/2.

If hacked firmware was available, I would work my @ss off in order to implement that feature.....

Why sony why ?....  ***inserts falling tears***

I have nothing against using different brands (yeayea dont shoot me) but the last time I shot anything using AF...cant remember actually... so I have invested quite some $ in all these neat little M4/3 adapters and now Sony wave's at me with an inbody focus confirmation ??? cant 'friggin believe they pulled this off and its affordable as well! The only real con for me would be the absence of a viewfinder as I dont like to use back-lcd's for framing...but I'm flexible!

Thanks for bringing that to my attention! Very cool!

Only if this was more accurate than my eyes would I get too excited, and from this video it isn't. But it nonetheless illustrates some real OOB thinking.

They will probably implement that on the translucent series alphas.

And the good thing about this for us existing NEX-3/5 owners is that this peak focus capability will be included in Firmware 04 upgrade  8)

Do u have a link? Sony sent me an email with the upgrade info and the feature wasn't there.

Here is the Sony NEX-C3 with a manual focus Jupiter-9, 85mm f/2 lens. The NEX-C3 comes with firmware upgrade 04 and will have the focus peaking feature. ............Firmware upgrade 04 for Sony NEX-3, and NEX-5 cameras will be available for download on June 20th - we will have more information and tests on focus peaking shortly after.

You said it But as Robin commented I cant help but wonder about the quality. I used to shoot with a Canon 40D and was allready leaning towards legacy lenses and while some adapters came with 'focus confirmation chip' that wasnt all very accurate to say the least.
