Canon's "Historic Global Announcement"

Lots of speculation about what this might or might not be.

Its probably not likely to be a new printer but maybe it will be Canon's EF mount HD video contender, or something otherwise mirrorless?

. . .maybe this has already been in the rumors department.

I'm a bit confused as to what the announcement actually was...

Its the announcement of an announcement that will take place in Hollywood on November 3rd.

This seems to be the way marketing works these days: let the forum rumor-mills do the work for you.

Actually Lisandra posted this more than a week ago, maybe we should just strike the thread?

More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

As big as Canon is, they still have a negative - and that's that no one else uses their sensors but them.

Sony has Nikon & Pentax feeding off Sony sensors & Sony sensor fabrication......

How is that a negative? Canon doesn't have to rely on anyone else for their innovation.

I see it as not gaining any "Extra" income from not selling sensors to other company's.. But, they really don't need "Extra Income" do they?

Well let's see...
1) Canon, Sony, & Panasonic are all quite large
2) Canon is the only company that doesn't gain any photographic $$ by selling to other companies....

Verdict = Undecided  :)

Addendum:  The quiet underdog is Samsung.  They have (will) the glass to compete with Sony.  Samsung is one good sensor away from joining the "big time"  :)

I didn't know that there were photographic $$'s....I thought they were all just $$'s, i.e. just business....

no official MSRP but its been tossed around at $16K to $20k (and just the lens in that photo above is supposedly $6,800)

Its well put together and the layout is comprehensive, footage wise things are a bit unknown still...
