Where does that Japanese guy get that cool British accent? Or is he a British Asian who just happens to be in Japan? I bet one of the Brits on this board can specify exactly what sort of accent that is.

I believe Kai is native Hong Kong Chinese, which was under British rule for a long time. Not Japanese. I can't place the accent, but it could just be the way he speaks.

Popo is right he's from HK and being that it was under British rule they learn British English instead of Amerian English.  He's got lots of nice videos on cameras that I've seen before.

I'm English and can't believe he's spent his whole life in HK with the accent he has, maybe he studied here.

Thanks, I thought so. What about the class component: it is not working class is it? And certainly not RP either.

Not in the "cor blimey guvna" Dick van Dyke way of working class talking! It's sort of well educated London I guess and probably a bit of a mix? In his opening for this video he says "...it reminds one of the old film cameras..." which is a fairly "posh" way to talk. People think I'm posh (I'm not, as I only have three butlers lol) and I don't use "one" in conversation  ;D

You're right - listening again I think it's Hong Kong well-educated with a year or two of good old London town thrown in. Funnily enough the Youtube Channel information shows their country as the UK and unless there's been a huge shift in the tectonic plates, Hong Kong harbour isn't here yet.
