Does it have an EVF?
Design is pretty interesting, not too "Crazy", as many imagined it might be, considering the designer  ;)

Don't know...HOWEVER.....
Rumor has it being a K-Mount meaning that the entire K-Mount lens collection can be used without an adapter....

Pentax is testing the waters with this model. I think it is a K Mount. the photo with Pentax line of lenses is our clue, I hope.
This could be a game changer for DSLRs in many ways. It could mean that those who want to use all their lenses [as is] on a smaller camera.
C/N should be watching this  ;)

I dunno... looks weird. And it's not that much smaller than a DSLR. If I was a Pentax user I don't think I would sacrifice my optical viewfinder for such a small size reduction.

Those pictures are fake.

What makes you think that?

Awesome.  Panasonic and Olympus will have to drop lens prices now.  40mm f2.8 + Body for less than $900!  Russian market will go crazy for this camera considering they have so much K mount glass around there for dirt cheap.  I won't be surprised if Zenit becomes an OEM reseller in Russia.

What's so ugly about it?  I think it looks solid.  It looks like a Ricoh GXR with a Pentax K-mount.  Honestly, if I was looking to get into a new system, this is what I would go for.  The price and the size is spot on for amateur enthusiasts.  My guess is the sensor is probably the same CMOS sensor used in the GXR-M mount considering the 40mm f2.8 is probably 50mm equivalent.  And how about that 40mm, the redefinition of pancake lens.

I think it's the curve of the mode dial next to the mount.

My thoughts:
http://admiringlight.com/blog/pentax-k-01-announced/

Agree here, it is a wait and see, to see how it is accepted.
I still think the tech side may be a test (As the "T" 50-90 Canons where for EOS Electronics), for future Mirror-less DSLR style bodies.

I was gonna say a bunch of insulting and aggravating things, but jman says it more politely:

This whole thing makes me wonder what Pentax engineers are thinking.  First they release the Pentax Q, an interchangeable lens camera that uses a small compact camera sensor, thereby offering little to no advantage over a point and shoot.  Now they release a mirrorless camera that has NONE of the advantages of other mirrorless cameras (great EVF, fast CDAF, compact size, small lenses), yet has significant disadvantages when compared against the similarly sized K-5 DSLR (no viewfinder, slower focus, worse handling due to non-existent grip).

The only real marvelous thing is the lens, which is no thicker than a lens cap!!
Like ive said from the beginning, 100+ lenses to choose from arent crap if it focuses slower than a 2001 point and shoot. Swing and a miss pentax, swing and a miss...

Despite the obvious, commenters over at dpreview are hailing it as the "perfect mirrorless" and "what nikon should have done" and "THE camera of 2012". I need a psychiatrist, My mind doesn't agree with society...
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Agreed, weird weird weird product....

I don't see any advantage to a small dslr, and lots of disadvantages.  I was right about the lens though!

*searches for old posts...*

... maybe they plan on making lenses that go way inside the camera to cut down on the size a little, but still... weird.

HA!

(Or does the lens not actually go that far into the body? I can't tell...)

lets hope not , as much as i adore my gxr and mount module [ ricohs name for the m mount  unit] its 12 mp sensor seems an aging one and its iso performance  its vert nice  without a aa filter  at low and med isos ,but above  1600 is frankly.......very avg. sensor performance
ricoh has moved on it seems....they have announced  2 new apsc modules a new m mount with the same 16mp sensor as in the nex 5 n  and a 24- 85 apsc equiv , with the same sensor

i posted this comment over at admiring light , my first stop to check out a "pre review " so far

i think you answered your own questions jordan , pentax with the q and now this aregoing their usual way which is a way other dont , the auto110 in the 80swhoselensesstill serveme well adapted is further proof of pentaxes  offbeat style

now that pentax and ricoh share front offices some things may be greenlighted
based on a fusion of the new supercompanies interests

before the gxr mount was officially announced but people knew of its development
their was much speculation as to its mount type , what surprised me was the sheer number of folks who wanted ricoh to produce a k mount module other speculated m 4\3 , i wished for m mount

die hards were pleading k all over the internet please!!

its true there is little size advantage , but a slapping mirror is gone and the kmount
is given a new life in another body type , which is exciting for many a k mount devotee

Pentax dares to be different - this much I like  8)

Mirrorless does not mean "small" - Pentax took care of "small" in their "Q"....
Straight out of the box, this K-01 has more lenses available to it than any other mirrorless system - again, smart move by Pentax   :)

Hahahaha, me too. I can't see a purpose in this camera. I already have a K-mount dslr, which I almost threw out of the window, now, some meaningless camera, which has none of the advantages of the otherwise pathetic K-r, hm, why buy it in the first place?

adash , im surprised at you, iwe;ll understand your strong opinions on the pentax you had and pentaxes unwillingness to acnowlege its problems ....but why trash this new camera ....maybe it will work beautifully , truely its not of kr lineage , its a ompletely new beast for the wonderful k glass out there , and it has sensor stabilization ....in love that

and the design is cool imho ....ive decided i kinda like it

look at it here to get a better sense of its build and size

I distrust everything with Pentax on the nameplate.

Well, this is where the big deception comes in. Yes, the glass is great, but autofocusing it in Contrast Detect is a pain in the ass. K-r does that for about a second with the kit lens and for about TWO SECONDS with the sigma 18-50/2.8 DC EX MACRO. Unless they did something brilliant (which I doubt that they can, having in mind the K-r epic fail), the usability of legacy lenses will be pathetic. Better than K-mount lenses on m4/3, but still suboptimal. If you want to use your K-mount lenses, buy a K-5 and stay away from that prank.
