Just plain strange :). Interesting though thanks.
Worry about the image that comes out of the box, rather than the box itself

So this is why their DSLRs are so much?
Wasting R/D on this Crapola that will never go to market!
What tech in these pieces of dreck is experimental that may be used in an unrelated product?

Exactly - Nikon DSLRs are definitely way overpriced...

Companies that produce great products have some very talented people working for them on the design and engineering side.  The best and brightest of those people are allowed to "think ahead," experiment even in improbable ways, in order to find the one or two elements in a crazy concept that translate to a marketable product or feature.

If companies sit on those bright people, don't let them get a little crazy once in a while, they stagnate, get bored, and go elsewhere.  That costs the company in terms of future innovation.  What companies, camera or otherwise, often display at big shows as seemingly crazy items, are often the result of those "outside the box" efforts by their advanced engineering and design people.

That said, to me the two items Nikon displayed look like some sort of security system IR cameras.

I wish I could agree with but Panasonic is where it's at now....Just look at their recent lenses and the GH2 & G3 1-2 punch....
