OM-D will get a 16 megapixel sensor (Pany's G3/GX1 ?)
« on: January 16, 2012, 11:19:48 AM »
(FT5) A 16 megapixel m43 sensor for the new digital OM camera!

And, the Olympus 2000 (made by Cosina may be the Body used) ???
Or an Olympus made OM Body Style ???

Or just a statement of the last Olympus camera in 35mm SLR ???

Snip
And this is going ot be the name of the future”Oh My Goodness” camera :) Olympus registered the name “Olympus OM-D” on January 3 (Source: trademark.markify). The”D” is for “digital”. And that camera will be the follow up of the last of all OM cameras, the OM-2000 (film camera). The camera will be announced arounf February 8th.

I think he just meant that the new camera will be the successor to the OM 2000 in the OM line. Olympus must have noticed that people love the classic/retro design (which I'm certain was a huge factor in the success of the digital PENs), so it would be a weird move to base the new camera on one of the least "classic" of all the OMs.

is it me or is that camera an amazingly beautiful thing?

It looks close to the E-420. If there was a smaller version of the E-420, I would love it.

I liked the E-510 I had, just the right size with a good mix of dials and buttons. But, I am still hoping for a more Classic OM look, or close relative anyway.

im also 200% certain the sensor will be the G3/GX1 sensor. Which is a good thing to say the least, but somehow i still would have preferred a brand new sensor.

If it's weather sealed, it can't have an entirely metal body, but it will probably have a magnesium alloy shell.

That's what I was hoping also, with the Rumored New Sensor news

Please, NO hump on the top. Not another pseudo dSLR body.

I'd figure out a way to buy one..

KEEP it the same body dimensions,
The Rewind can be the P/S/A/M dial
The ISO dial can be the Shutter Speed dial
Drop the Shutter winder
Keep the Self-timer as a self-timer, for nostalgic looks
Keep the On/Off as an On/Off switch, for nostalgic looks
Keep the PC Sync outlet
Drop the Rewind lever
Drop the Shutter Speed ring on the mount
No Flash  (Pro models don't have an on-board flash, Typically)

Interesting about the OM-2000 I say this because of the following:

Quote
The OM2000 was the last OM body released by Olympus, in 1997. It was a body made by Cosina with an OM lens mount. For that reason, many Olympus fans do not consider it a true OM body.

The Hump on top of OM1/2 was very discrete and even quite pleasant. And if this body has a built-in EVF, at least something should house it and the associated optics:

I don't think it'll be pseudo slr, but it'll definitely have a hump. Corner vf cameras are discriminative of lefties

I hope that it will NOT have a built-in flash. That sort of fill light distorts the user's ability to judge and control ambient light.

olympus played games with the truth about ep3 s sensor...... this is gonna be a warmed over g 3 sensor , i hope they can squeeze  some better performance out of it .....fujis x 100 sensor is incredible , but that because of fujis implimentation of it

i would be impressed if fuji  , correction olympus....offered a 8 mp mode with double the iso performance , similar to the  fuji x10s  exr 6mp mode

its just a plain jane 12mp sensor not the newest either , but it shines at high iso due to fuji magic pixie dust at low isos the detail
and resolution are stunning

Hmmmmm...ISO 25k could mean a couple of things...if the dynamic range thing is true then that's really exiting.

The high dynamic range will come at ISO 50...

You can do that in PP.

Quite impressed by the value "50" itself. Now I hope that it will be a single exposure and a really High Dynamic range.
