The Olympus OM-D will cost around $1,100
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:09:34 AM »
Too high? Just right for a weather sealed body with an integrated EVF that looks like the OM series of cameras?

Says the sensor is tweaked and designed by Olympus... If it is, I hope they managed to squeeze even better noise performance and dynamic range out if it than the G3/GX1 sensor.

I'd guess it's for the body only. But who knows?

I'm going to guess body only. If it was with the kit lens, that would be too good to be true.

The price for the kit usually isn't that much higher. When I got my E-P3 there was like a $20 difference. I didn't really want the kit zoom, but I figured it'd be silly to turn down a lens for $20.

Ah... It'll be a bit more then $20 then :D

You know, this would be the perfect time for Olympus to release a fast standard prime, to sell in an alternative high end kit with the OM-D. Imagine a 25mm f1.4 in the same style as the 12mm f2, with the snap focus ring.

I wouldn't turn the 12-50 down for $20...

The camera has to have something special to offer for that price (I'd have to pass up the Oly 45mm in order to purchase the OM-D)... While weather-sealing might be nice, I'm hoping for a great viewfinder and an outstanding sensor (better than the gx1).  I shoot most of my stuff in moderately low light, and I already have the e-p1, so it will have to do better than that.  And at about $500 used, the G3 is a really nice alternative, with money left over to purchase the 45mm 1.8... too bad I'm not inspired by the G3's looks the same way I am by the e-p1.

$1100 is dirt cheap - why?
It's only $200 more than the original price of the E-P3 when it was first released  :)

good point, I hope tue price stays there. Now there's talk of ISO 25k and high dynamic range, whatever that means to them..
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

It really has to be seen as a replacement for the E-5, from that perspective $1100 would be a bargain (if it was built as well as an E-5 or E-3).

fujis great 43 glass
If you mean the great Oly 4/3 glass, it already works well on E-P3/PL-3/PM-1.
Videos online demonstrated superb focusing ability and quite decent focusing speed.
I expect the new OM-D to be even better in that respect.

This was made soon after E-P3 was released. I would say "very usable but not fantastic":

I'm impressed, I used to own the ZD 50mm macro, which was astoundingly sharp but a pain to focus on the E-P2. This video shows that 4/3 lenses can almost be used in an efficient way... great to hear!

The new autofocus should be in the OM-D too.
