They said it wasn't the same sensor, I don't see why they would lie.

Multi-aspect just means it can provide other formats like 16:9 and 3:2 by usiing less of the sensor. Notice that all of the alternative formats are lower res than 4:3.  :(

I thought shooting in the 4/3 apsect is best, because of the sensor size.
Isn't it better to crop afterwards ?

I wish it was:

GH2 image size:
[4:3] 4,608 x 3,456 (L)
[3:2] 4,752 x 3,168 (L)
[16:9] 4,976 x 2,800 (L)
[1:1] 3,456 x 3,456 (L)

Actually the GH2 sensor has 18+ Mpix and E-M5 has only 16.
GH2 expands the view horizontally when changing the aspect ratio, and E-M5 crops it.

multi aspect from Panasonic is different. The sensors is bigger than the standard 4/3s and when you change aspect it actually uses more sensor area. The difference is that instead of croping the 4/3s image it gives you a wider field of view. The resolution is lower vertically but higher horizontally.

Spec.wise.it doesn't add up, but in the video it clearly expands the view, what's going on there? Marketing?

That came from a Panasonic website:

http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/gh2/specifications.html

Are you sure the spec. don't match the reality?

no no what I mean is that in the omd specs it doesn't seem to be multi aspect, but in the video it is. The Panasonic info you provided is spot on.

It's probably fake then, ups, I mean promotional. Like the software bokeh from the Sony compacts, which turned to be shot with ....5D II.

that's a shame then, multi aspect shooting is about as fun as a waterpark

I've started to use 6:6 on the E-P3 since some week ago. Just because I think that the photos I print looks esthetically better in the photo binder :)
Best wishes to you all!

I do like square format quite a bit, a lot more area is covered overall.

In most online applications, the scale is reduced because of a larger side. This doesn't happen with square format though.

The video shows the actual resolution for each aspect ratio and neither number (W or H) never gets larger than 4:3 ratio, despite the actual image on the screen doing so.  So... no multi-aspect like the GH's

That's what I meant, but you said it better than I did. Lisandra was misled because she didn't compare the pixel dimensions of the 4 aspect ratios in the video. As you say, 4:3 has the greatest height and width.  The other 3 are smaller in one or both dimensions. But there's no fake. PENs and other cameras can do the same thing.

Of course, any of the lower-res aspect ratios can be replaced by cropping 4:3 images in post. That's the method I use unless my memory card is damn near full and I don't have a spare. Then I may switch to get smaller files.
