But wait...there's more...on the OM-D!
« on: January 21, 2012, 01:17:18 PM »
I got many rumors in the last 24 hours and it’s looks like the new Olympus OM-D will break many “records”. I have been told that it has the fastest AF (autofocus) of all current mirrorless cameras. Even faster than the already amazing Olympus E-P3. What I don’t know yet is how Olympus managed to achieve that increased performance. Could be a new faster readout circuitry or also a result of the new sensor with integrated phase detection pixels like the Fuji F300 (compact camera).

Meanwhile Wellsfargo (Click here) confirmed the OM arrival: “The new OM-D model will be offered in the United States, Europe and some Asian countries as the top model of the company’s digital mirrorless interchangeable lens camera series, selling for above 100,000 yen in Japan. The new model resembles the OM-1 film camera and is equipped with high-speed autofocus and image stabilization functionality as well as 16 megapixel resolution.“

The sensor is super confirmed that its new. And yheres no auto hdr nonsense, its all sensor. People left and right are telling me there's some sort of combination of contrast and phase detection, but I'm having a hard time believing it. It'll look like the OM 4 so that earlier fake rendering is actuly pretty spot on. It also has a tilting, touch screen (suck it purists). The price is also very attractive. For the first.time Panasonic has some intense catching up to do...

What if the sensor had AF sensors embedded between some Photo Sites? I believe this already being tried by another camera maker. Would that allow CDAF and PDAF?

Can't wait to see the hard details on the sensor and autofocus speed, and I hope that tilty screen has a solid lock (does that make me a purist?).  I want very badly to pull the trigger on this one and upgrade from my E-P1, but I may have to sell my truck to make it happen.  Everything's gonna have to be JUST right.  So yes, Olympus has to make me prefer walking with this thing in my hands over warm dry transportation... and so far they're on the right track!  ;D

saying tilting screens and touchscreens are amateurish useless things makes u a purist. Wanting a solid lock is reasonable.

Do you think this new camera will have any opportunity to use the VF-2?

I did just get it on thursday, and it would be unhappy if the OM-D doesn't support it and I've just bought it.
Best wishes to you all!

It looks like it's going to have an entirely brand new sensor.

I hope so, Lisandra :)

We just have to wait and see. Nothing's official yet, just rumors :)

Now I'll go back to bed. It's still morning in Sweden but I've been up for some hours doing some cleaning, been to the recycling station and those thinks.

To all of you, have a nice day! / André
Best wishes to you all!

Why would you need to use an external VF-2 when it already has one (possibly even better) built-in?

What about the vertical tilt option?

That would be quite redundant.
