Will Olympus keep making digital PEN cameras?
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:31:25 PM »
With the release of the OM-D E-M5, it seems like Olympus may do what they've done in the past and abandon the system entirely. Could we all soon have collectors items?

It's a distinct possibility depending on what happens with their Fuji or Sony situations  :)

I don't think they'll stop making PENs. They may focus more on the E-PL and E-PM models though, since many E-P users will be switching to the new line. Even if they did drop the entire PEN line, they would introduce equivalent OM-D models, so I don't think we have anything to fear either way. The OM-D line isn't a new system, just a new body style.

What is the difference between the PEN en OM-D line ?

The only difference to me are looks and weather sealed.
The other features are just upgrades.

So for me the OM-D is actually the PEN E-P4

I think Olympus will retain the e-plx and e-pmx lines, while the em-5 may replace the e-px.  Both the e-px line and the new om-d line are aimed at enthusiasts.

What are you talking about? The system just got what no mirrorless system had so far - it went weatherproof. They will not only keep the system, but keep it as their <only> system. As long as nobody buys them out, of course  :-X
If you mean the PEN line, it should remain available, but maybe not as advanced as the new E-Mx cameras. Remember that by definition the PEN is "a camera that is very easy and natural to use, just like writing down with a pen".

I hope they don't get rid of the E-Px line! That's the best one!
