Which lense for new E-P3?
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:23:51 PM »
17mm or new 14-42mm II?

I currently have the 20mm Pany, original 14-42mm Oly and recently purchased 40-150mm m4/3 lenses.

I'm thinking the new 14-42mm II for the E-P3.

Then I can keep the original 14-42mm on the E-P2 and let the wife use it giving her decent coverage.

Just don't see enough difference between the 17mm and 20mm Pany to go with the 17mm.

Any other thoughts?

Sounds like you have the best plan already..

OR....

Get the 14mm and the 14-42,,,, that gives two primes  a 14 and 20. not a bad 2 lens combo for the money. throw the 40-150 in the bag as the [reach lens].

I went with the 17mm.  I figure Oly will eventually release a m43 version of the 12-60mm f2.8-4.0, which will replace my 14-42mm ED.  But, since you already have the 20mm, it might be worth waiting another month or so and get a body only.

. . . can we ever hope for, - ehr . . meaning: get, a kit E-P3 with the 12mm/f2.o bundled?  Too much to hope for?  If there would be one, then what will/should the price be, you think?
Or will that (combo with the 12/2.0) happen in the future when Oly releases the Pro E-PX?

It would be nice, But, the 12/2 seems to be a lens for a higher profit margin. So, it will sell individually, I would think.
But, who knows... a fast kit zoom may in the works also...
Do I hear a 12-55 f/2.8 fixed f/stop?

I wish.  My favorite lens is the Nikon 35-70mm f2.8.  24-110mm equivalent fixed at f2.8 would be a dream.  I do think we will get the 12-60mm f2.8-4 in m43 mount, which is still pretty awesome.  Now if they made a 9-35mm fixed at f2.0, I would probably blow a load in my pants.

the 12mm is really an exceptional lens , i can imagine it on an ep3 , and its good, very good :)

yes a 9 to 35,  4x zoom at 2.8 fixed would be  awesome ....
but a 9-to 35 f2 , ? holy!

i think we all would spontainoiusly orgasm if such a dream lens ever was created  , it would instantly make micro four thirds the most exciting and innovative mount in cameraland , and insure a great future for the makers

The kit zoom costs next to nothing with the camera so you may as well get it. They are not packaging the E-P3 with the 17mm lens in Australia - at least not at the moment.

The build quality of the new kit lens is excellent. The MF ring is nicely damped, and smooth zoom ring. The lens has a similar quality feel to the 9-18mm kit zoom (if anything the MF and focus movement is a little better).

The mount is polycarbonate but then so is the mount on my Nikkor 18-105mm lens.
Be nice to each other, life is too short for anything else.
